So today is Match Day for all graduating medical students, when they find out whether they got the specialty they wanted, and where they'll be spending the next few years of their lives as residents.

My son calls me today, saying "Hey Dad, I got matched in radiology (which he wanted) at a fine hospital associated with an excellent University."

Yep, my son will be a medical resident at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor.

I told him I was extremely happy for him.

It's easier for me to take, since he'll be getting paid by them, as opposed to if he were a student there, and the money was going the other way.

Close availability of sterilizing agents should help a bit. Would a full biohazard suit be innapropriate, or just slightly overdressed for social occasions? :p

Congratulations to your son, sorta mostly kinda a little!

At least you'll have fond memories of your son's childhood to comfort you.

Congratulations!

Congrats--but did you teach him well enough as a boy that he'll remember to give all their football players rectal exams with splintering tongue depressors? (Yes...even though he'll be in radiology...)

Does this mean your kid will be wearing Maize and Blue?

They gave him a plactic cup with an 'M' on it when he was there. I told him if I gave him that cup and told him it was lemonade, he probably wouldn't want to drink it.

Congrats Bill. :banger:

Have him get a full length mirror to practice in front of, to help him prepare for his entry to the Ann Arbor medical scene.

He needs to be able to enunciate in a slow and measured professional tone, "It appears to be a gerbil. Call your RA and tell them you won't coming back to the dorm tonight."

Funny Med Story

Ok start out in the pre-med program a bajillion years ago. Take my first year, anatomy, advanced math, chemistry, etc. etc. Start year two doing quite well, I might add. Quarter # 5. Do an internship-shadow program, basically learn what the deal is supposed to be. I find out I don't like the culture of sick people. I finish the quarter, and hmm, time to change major.

Only good thing is I have almost all of my math and science pre-req's finished.

Some people just aren't cut out for that. I was one. Kudo's to all of those who can and do strive to keep us healthy and well.

BTW, nurses and PA's are my heroes in this equation. I learned first hand years ago and even now that they are true angels!
