Clean Old-Fashioned Hate
From a Tech Student
The Georgia Tech football program first played the University of Georgia in 1893. Tech defeated Georgia 28-6 marking the first-ever victory for the school. Facing imminent defeat, the angry Georgia fans threw stones and other debris at the Tech players. This poor treatment by the Georgia faithful gave birth to the rivalry now known as "Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate". This rivalry has spanned generations, and the fire still burns like it first did in 1893, even though the schools are no longer in the same conference.
Before tech even fielded a football team, a rivalry with UGA had already been stablished. On February 20th, 1892, Tech students attended a game between Auburn and Georgia to cheer for the Tigers, or, more likely, against the hated Bulldogs. The student body appointed a committee to suggest unifying colors to identify Tech fans in attendance. The committee decided on Old Gold and White, and close to 200 Tech students wore our beloved colors to the game. True gold fabric was hard to come by at the time, so avid Tech fans supported the team by wearing the closest thing they could - yellow-colored jackets (note the name).
Many of you may be aware of our beloved mascot, the Ramblin' Wreck. Tradition holds that any freshman who touches the Reck between convocation in the fall and the last day of classes in the spring will not only be cursed with bad luck for their college career, but will also cause the football team to lose to UGA that year. Georgia Tech's student newspaper The Technique publishes a special "To Hell With Georgia" issue on the week of the game with u[sic]ga.
References to Georgia in Georgia Tech Fight Song/Cheers:
Up with the white and gold,
down with the red and black,
Georgia Tech is out for a victory.
Well drop our battle-axe on Georgias head,
When we meet her our team is sure to beat her.
Down on the old farm there will be no sound
Till our bow-wows rip through the air;
When the battle is over Georgias team will be found
With the Yellow Jackets swarming round!
..,If I had a son, sir, Ill tell you what hed do --
He would yell, TO HELL WITH GEORGIA, like his daddy used to do.
Whats the Good Word?
To Hell with Georgia! X3
How bout them dawgs?
[censored] on em!
