"Generic" items that you buy

Thump

Hating the environment since 1994
  • What are some generic brand items that you purchase to save $$$$?

    Multi-vitamins
Certain cereals (Frosted Mini wheats and grape nuts from Kroger)
Triscuits and Wheat thins (From Meijer only)
    Peanut butter
    Jam
    Deli meats
    Paremsan Cheese
    Ice cream
    Pasta
    Potato Chips

I'm sure there are more I am missing but that is it for now.

Depends on what I'm cooking. If it's an ingredient I buy the generic brand a lot. Beans, nuts, cheese, whatever. But if it's something that's a primary part of the meal like the meat, the pasta, the cheese, the bread, then I pretty much always buy top quality.

I buy generic wine (Trader Joe's two-buck chuck) to cook with, but I'll buy a nice wine to drink.

Basically, it all comes down to taste and quality. If the generic delivers the same taste/quality as a name-brand, I'll buy the generic, every time.

Paremsan cheese, shaving creme...WTF, guys? :shake:

BTW, Kroger isn't everywhere. It's extremely regional these days.
