Gene Chizik (Former Auburn HC)

Word in some circles is that Pat Dye and a prominent booster who essentially controls the university stepped in with "concerns" over Turner Gill's wife (she's white) and Chizik was hired.

During Heisman week they had a replaty of the Auburn-Texas A&M Cotton Bowl in 1986...JEEEZZZZUUUUSSSSS Dye was a terrible coach...I had forgotten how bad he really was on gameday.

Lowder?

Read a rumor on our board.

Tubby has a deal in his contract "no coaching searches behind his back or he's out of contract free of charge"

Tubby gets smoked by Bama

AU calls Houston Nutt to gauge interest level

Tubby's agent...Jimmy Sexton
Nutt's agent...Jimmy Sexton

Tubby out of contract with a fat buy-out.
Nutt gets a raise.

coincidence???

Auburn's been catching all kinds of hell over firing TT and this hire on Atlanta (many Georgia kids who can't get into Tech or UGA go to Auburn) sports radio. Clearly, no halfway decent head coach wanted the job, if it meant having to deal with all of the Auburn bullshyte. That job is simply not worth the pressure. If they treated TT that way, how do you think they're going to treat you, Mr. Chizik?

No way Turner Gill really wanted that gig. He's a hot name right now and can wait on a bigger, better opportunity. Going to Auburn (especially now that Alabama is back from the dead) is like stepping in front of a train.

Your constitution towards stepping in front of trains is weak.

I never understood it but Auburn had been trying to run Tubs out of town for years. They were going to can him the year that he went undefeated and then had to keep him...Its a strange situation and I have to agree with Rugby, the job is not worth the headache that it seemingly comes with

Auburn has always been and will always be 2nd fiddle.
Tubby got them past Bama which is what everyone thought they wanted.
But that wasn't good enough. He only won 1 SEC title in 10 years.
Nick Saban won 2 in 5 years.
Mark Richt won 3 in 7 years.
Urban Meyer has 2 in 4 years.
Dubose won 1 in 4 years.
Les Miles has 1 in 4 years.
Houston Nutt has just as many West titles as Tuberville.

I don't think Tubby should have been canned by any stretch of the imagination. But I can at least see why they did it. During the last 7 -8 years or so, there is no excuse for having only 1 conference championship.
LSU blows it in every even-numbered year, Arky is as inconsistent as they come, Bama, Kentucky, and Miss St. were on probation, Florida had Zook as coach for a while, Vandy ain't a football school, So Carolina is never a threat, Tennessee hasn't been Tenn since the late 90's. That leaves only UGA as a consistent threat on a year to year basis. Yet he still only managed 1 conference crown.

With Bama back on the upswing, Ole Miss back in the Mix, Arkansas has the coach AU wanted, and LSU ain't gonna be 7-5 forever, they don't know when (if ever) another SEC west title is going to come around, let alone winning the conference. He had (what was perceived to be) a chance to Auburn into a dynasty, and didn't even come close to doing so.

gather round kiddies, I've got the juice on this story. this comes from a well connected hog fan who i just had dinner with.

supposedly there is an agent who reps all the SEC coaches... (i'm drunk and i forget his name). nutt and tubbs included. tubbs had a 5 mil automatic buyout if auburn went behind his back. well... some dumb ass auburn booster called nutt and asked what it would take to get him to auburn after they got pasted by bama. nutt said he wasn't interested. however... the second he got off the phone he called his agent and got himself a contract extension (by threatening to leave) and his agent was able to get Tubbs a free out with a 5 mil bonus. So Tubbs quit with his money and now Auburn needs a coach.

but wait kids... it gets better. supposedly this same agent reps Gene Chizik. what a fucking coincidence! can our SEC brothers back me up on this story?
