I guess this thread is as good as any to post this. I was on Deadspin and saw the below link in the section where they have their links to other ralted sites (io9, Gizmodo, Kotaku, Jexebel, etc.). Without even looking I had an idea what it was going to be about, but my morbid curiosity made me click the link, and it confirmed my initial suspicions:

How Not to React to the News That Bradley Manning Is Transgender

The article and accompanying comments are stupefying. It rips any news site or their articles that still refer to Manning as "he", because, well, he wants to be referred to, and treated, as a "she". Specifically, it says, quote: "Using the wrong pronoun for a trans person is considered exceptionally shitty, and a violation of that person's identity", and that everyone also seems to "need guidance on how to write about trans issues with compassion and tact." Fuck you. The dude is a "he" until he gets his junk removed.

Some of the comments:

"You're a woman when you identify as a woman."

No, you're a woman when you enter puberty with female genitalia.

"Gender (man or woman) and sex (male or female) are two different things. For a lot of us, our gender and our sex match up. For lots of other people, they don't. So even though Manning was not born female, she was born a girl, and now she's a woman."

No, he was born a male. It's not our problem if he can't deal with it. Oh, by the way, "lots of folks" have problems with gender identity? Only if your definition of "lots" is anything over 0.1%...

"Gender" and "sex" are the same thing when referring to whether a person is a boy/man or girl/woman. If you are born with certain genitalia and feel like you're the opposite sex/gender, the you have a certified and recognized disorder. Well, it'll be a disorder until the LGBT community pummel the mental health community into submission just like they did with the categorization of homosexuality in the late '60s and early '70s.

I guess that 98% of society is totally fucked up and the remaining 2% are the ones who are truly spiritually enlightened. :roll1:
