barwis??!??

Barwis pre-game talk?? something like,

"Guys, wherever you are playing next year... if they need a good strength coach, I'm on Linkedin! Or, facebook me! So play a good game and try not to get hurt.... remember how i showed you to run out of bounds if you have the ball."

someone on Ann Arbor radio said the other day, "Where has Barwis been hiding??"

I will check out the site to see if they are still saying what local radio people have been talking about for the last couple of days:
"You know, those ohio State fans are so crazy... they get all excited about this game. I mean, we'd like to win but it's not the end of the world if we don't... They act like it's a big deal and whatnot."

THAT sounds pretty weak, acting like you don't care about the game because you've lost FIVE IN A ROW. We'll lose one, eventually, I just doubt that it will be this year.

Well like I have told many, many, and many more people ... Coach Barwis can only do so much.

He is without a doubt one of the top S&C coaches around if you even have a chance to hear him speak somewhere you will find out for yourselves.

He can only work with what he has.

He also cannot make tackles, hold onto the ball, throw bad passes, drop the ball, misreads, etc.... he is the S&C coach that is all.

He cannot go out on the road and recruit and get the players that he wants or needs.

Every weekend he is on the sidelines cheering on the team.

To many people made a big deal about all the attention he has gotten, but he cannot turn a player with little talent into a superstar overnight. For an example GBMW got smacked around for our comments earlier in the year about our offense line.

Here is the article: http://gobluemichiganwolverine.blogspot.com/2009/08/coaches-corner-offensive-line-concerns.html

We said that later (next year and the year after) that the offensive line would be better than this year because of the younger guys athletic ability and potential that are behind the starters and older players right now.

Well everything we have said has came true.

Has he wrestled a bear?

Being a "high energy" speaker doesn't make you a good S&C coach. How do Michigan players perform late in the season and in the fourth quarter? Are you seeing anyone who is noticeably bigger, stronger or who has more endurance? Are guys showing up to camp after off-season workouts with the body composition changes they've needed?

Barwis has been discussed a lot on here, and more than a few of us think his methods as described by your players sound like classic overtraining, from the erroneous school of "more work at higher intensity = more results". Anyone with a background in exercise physiology knows that it's not that simple, at least for people not taking anabolics. High-level training takes a lot more than a weightroom cheerleader; it is bioscience. A lot of Michigan fans have bought into that because the "Lloyd Carr was too soft and easy" has been repeated to the point of becoming virtual truth, so anyone who seems like they're "making the players work harder" must seem like a savant.

Again, where are the results? Will you put a bigger, faster, stronger and better conditioned team on the field this Saturday than you did last year? If he can't get meaningful results in two years, then I am skeptical that he's providing your team with anything beyond what any other S&C coach is doing at any other Big Ten school, and possibly less.

My brother and I discussed that same point, Bobcat. You have to give the body it's natural time to build back up. Consistent tearing of a muscle weakens it and is normally an area that causes more injuries. Strength and conditioning is a 3 pronged attack. Power, endurance and prevention of injury. I have heard that Minor is out and unfortunately I don't know much of the other players situations as far as injured or not but that is another factor. The reason there is the 20 hour rule is to protect the kids and their bodies from danger.
