The only thing that will matter is if tOSU allows them on campus this time....they were told no for the scUM game
As I've said in other posts, I don't think tOSU should allow or will allow ESPN on campus. But maybe allowing ESPN on campus is the next step to getting ESPN to quit their attacks on tOSU?

I would hope in the 9 months between this game and the Rose Bowl the Horn coaching staff has made covering kicks quite a priority. UT has way too many athletes to have such crappy kick coverage.

On another note I would think it is pretty much a given ESPN Gameday will be up there for this game but I know Ohio State has had an interesting relationship in the last few months with that network. Anyone think this will matter as far as that show being on campus September 10th?

If the people on this board had thier way they would not be there, although with a new AD who knows. Gieger (the old AD) told them no for the Meatchicken game last year. I hope not, I don't see a way that it would turn out good if they come here and set up shop.

I agree with the low scoring, close game. That just adds one more dynamic, "Tressel ball", "marty ball" whatevery you want to call it has a keep it close and win it at the end stratagy. That is the same way that VY has reached almost legand status in Texas, he always seems to find a way to pull out the close ones. Sept. can't get here fast enough

Remember, Mack Brown's teams have one lost 1 game in 4 years on the opponents' field, a close 42-35 shootout with Texas Tech in 2002. For whatever reason, the road success hasn't translated into wins 4 hours north of Austin in Dallas for the RRS, even w/ our 40,000 fans there, but that doesn't dismiss the fact that we win everywhere else.

1) This is slanted because the OU game doesn't technically count as a road game.

2) Beating up on B12 teams on the road doesn't translate well into this game. What you need to look at is what Mack Brown has done on the road vs OOC BCS conference teams and in Bowl games.

3) I posted this early in the thread but here you go:
-Here are the 4 times since 1998 that UT has gone on the road for an OOC game vs a BCS school and the results(opp final record):

1998: L 31-49 @ UCLA (10-2)
2000: L 24-27 @ Stanford (5-6)
2002: W 52-21 @ UNC (3-9)
2004: W 22-20 @ Arkansas (5-6)

Thats not real impressive fellas.

Bottom line is that this 1 loss on th road in 4 years thing is just an attempt to skew some numbers and claim a coaching advantage for UT.

If anyone in their right mind thinks UT has a coaching edge with Mack Brown at the helm vs a team with equal talent they are in need of some serious help.

I'd second the view on Arkansas. There's nothing quite as disturbing as 84,000 hicks all yelling "WOOOO, PIG SOOOOEY" in unison. That was definitely creepy. Where Tech fans can be unnerving if their team is doing well, they absolutely folded as a crowd once we went up 14 last season. Those damn pigs though, they were loud even after they had lost (well maybe not loud, but obnoxious for sure.)

It wasn't far from it. On the walk into the stadium there were guys set up on the side of the road heckling Texas fans and you could tell they weren't going to the game or went to Arkansas. They were just a bunch of hicks sitting around their pick-up trucks with their shirts off yelling at anybody who came by. If you need a visual aid just imagine any white guy that ever got arrested on Cops.

If you ever get a chance, come up and witness The Game between tOSU and scUM.
I'd say the same for you about coming down to the State Fair of Texas and witnessing first hand the chaos that is the Red River Shootout. I know we haven't done well recently but it is still the most impressive game I've ever been to. In fact, I may be the curse because the only times I've been to the game have been the last 5 years. It's incredible because the crowd is even and the fair itself is full all day long with rowdy fans. If there was one game I was going to take a person to that had never seen college football before it would be this game.

more than anything i am curious to know about ya'lls team and how you think that you will gameplan. Are you relying on big plays to score? sp teams? or do you expect to have the kind of offense that can drive the whole field?
the simple answer is yes. i believe very strongly we will have a very good chance of scoring off special teams. we took 5 punts to the house last year. both holmes and ginn both proved they could return punts. to make things more interesting, it seems that duo will be returning kick offs as well. so i wouldn't be to surprised to see atleast one kickoff returned for a td this year as well.

with ginn, holmes and gonzo on the field a big play is almost a given. we have, imo, the best wr trio in the nation. while there may be better individuals out there all around. i don't think there is a more deadly trio. secondly, you'd be hard pressed to find someone more dangerous in the open field than teddy ginn. feel free to spend all your time gamplanning against ginn. gonzo is slower by a few hundreths of a second in the 40. oh and holmes, he is shaping up to be a braylon edwards type guy. i can't imagine any team holding all 3 guys in check for a full game. so yeah, i think big plays are a distinct possibility.

i think the deciding factor on us being able to consistantly drive the field is our o-line verses your d-line. if they can at the very least hold a pocket i think your d is in trouble. with a quick pass game giving our guys the ability to make plays after the catch combined with ginn running alot of misdirection. i think we will be able to survive without a running game. if we manage to find a running game, it just makes it that much more difficult on your guys.

On defense, is it really as simple as, "spy vince young" or do you think that they might try a more elaborate game plan? How do you think you match up against an offensive line that is shapping up to be the best line that UT has had in over a decade and some say ever? In my oppinion this is where the game will be won/lost to do it in an environment like the shoe is just gravy.
oh dear god no! i think vy will see more defensive looks in this game than he will see in his next 4 combined. vy will be facing a very talented, very big, very fast defence that has a shitload of experience. the defence you guys are walking into "might" be as good/better than the 02 defense we road to a nc. one thing i can say with 100% certainty is that we are MUCH better at lb than we were in 02. i don't think our d-line has to beat your o-line. they just have to hold their own and let the lb's clean up. your o-line will need to dominate and consistantly put hats on our lb's to compete. carpenter and hawk will likely both be butkus nominees this year. if schlagel continues to improve he might be right up there with them.

this might sound a little cocky. but i don't consider vy to be that significant a threat. this defense has stuffed highly talented guys like vy in the past. furthermore, they are going to get a healthy dose of troy smith through the spring. so a guy like vy will be anything but new. don't get me wrong. i think he is a serious threat and will without question be the focus of our defensive strategy. but the guys on our d have faced guys like him in the past and won that battle time and time again. furthermore, troy smith is the same type of qb. i simply think vy will be properly accounted for in our defensive strategy. the biggest conscern i have going into this game is which offensive line will show up for tOSU. late 04 or early 04? if early 04 shows up i think you have a legit chance. if late 04 or better shows up, i think it will be a long night for you.

i think this will be the biggest test your "team" will face all year. meaning your offense, defense, and special teams. for it to be in the shoe and a night game. i don't envy your guys one bit.

one more thing. this isn't going to be a low scoring game. combined score will reach the 50's. this is going to be a very exciting game.

Got My Ticket!!!!

I will be there and I will be screaming from Kickoff to the 00:00!!!! Vince Young is very special talent and I can't wait to see him closeup. I look for Troy Smith to open some eyes as well..The question for the game to me is the o-line for OSU are they going to have gelled by game 2??? Teddy is gonna draw alot of attention so look for a big game from Holmes or Gonzales. I hope OSU get's the ball to TE's more this season with all the speed we have at WR should open up TE's in the middle and the flat. I in no means think Ginn can be stopped totally just like I don't think VY can be stopped totally. I think with both you have to hope to contain them. Which Defense adjusts the best halftime may be the winner of this game....Just one thing WE ARE NOT MICHIGAN...You try that VY left VY right stuff all night could be a very long night. Vince is gonna have to use his arm good amount of time in this game..regardless I can not wait to be among the 100,000 screaming Buckeyes probaly be about 5,000 Texas fans there..I will be a good sport to Texas fans win or lose and would love to see some of y'all at a tailgate before and after the game. I hope it's a classic with my beloved Bucks on top.
