Jim Tressel call-in show (1460)

Notes from today's show with JT:

1) Biggest unknown is Chizik and the Texas D. Staff has studied Auburn film to see what Chizik likes to do. The secondary coach at Texas has been there 3 or 4 years, so the staff doesn't expect wholesale changes in the defensive backfield. Interested to see what Chizik and the D will do -- expect to have to heavily adjust gameplan as the game progresses.

2) UL-Lafayette game film doesn't show much -- no surprise there though.

3) Aside from VY, very important to cover the TE. The TE, no matter who it is, is huge in the Texas game plan.

4) #2 individual to account for, after VY obviously, is Ramonce Taylor. Tressel described Ramonce as "a gamebreaker, just like Teddy."

5) Caller asked why OSU tends to punt "down the middle" so much, and not go for the coffin corner. JT responded that no punt returner in the country has experienced fielding a punt in the 'Shoe, where the ball goes 'up and up and up' but never clears the upper deck crowd. Staff wants to see how opposing returners handle fielding punts in the 'Shoe to decide whether to go for a coffin kick or make them try to field another one.

6) Asked point blank about Erik Haw, Tressel said, "we'd like him to show more consistency." Said Erik was a scout team stand-out and that that can get a player some PT. Didn't say it directly, but the allusion was that Haw, after demotion for off-field problem this summer, didn't give the effort the staff wanted to see to work his way back up the depth chart. Erik has really come through in preparation for Texas though, and the staff wants him to want to get back on the field since they could use a 220 lb RB.

7) Staff has been 'looking at' Texas since November 2003. They were fully expecting to play Texas for about two weeks in the 2004 Fiesta Bowl until Kansas State upset Oklahoma in the Big-12 championship game.

There is one way that I sell My ticket, and that is if as I am walking to the stadium I get hit by a bus and am told by the doctor that I won't make it out in time for the game.

Other than that, there is no way in hell I am missing this game. I was at OSU-ND, I was there for UC-Cincy in paul brown stadium, I was there for the holy buckeye catch, and I was there for the Feista Bowl.

No way in hell do I miss this game

I'll PM you... I hope it's not forbidden by the mods to do that. Don't want to step on anyone's toes.
Is this considered "post padding" to have a sig like this?

I believe it is now your duty to post pad due to that beautiful sig of yours. All I know is I can't wait til I get home so I can check her website, dang work firewall!!!

Although like IAB said, the Buckeye fan in me wants to see a blowout.

Mr. Incred:

Who is that in the new sig? I just glanced at it for 10 minutes or so, and I never saw her face, so I didn't recognize her. :!

Interesting quote from Schlegel regarding containing VY

From the-ozone

"When you look at the places where he's been able to run, it's because people have gotten over the edge on him and he just steps up in the pocket and he has the entire field to work with. When you flush him out of the pocket and whoever the spy guy is can come over the top," said Schlegel, getting into it and using his hands to describe just how the spy guy would do that.
"A. J. had a sack like that this last week. They flushed him out and he came over the top and made the tackle. It's when you get on the outside and leave that open middle void, then he has two ways to go on you and it gets tough. We practice that and we game plan for that," he said.

I thought Ramonce was more of a "Reggie Bush-type" player, but that's just me. :wink2:

I hadn't thought about the 2 weeks of expecting to play Texas after the 2003 regular season. That shouldn't hurt.
