6) I like the fact that ya'll, in general, seem to be more confident and assertive group than your big 11 brethren from UM. They always seemed to treat football as if we should sip tea, eat crumpets, and watch a jolly good match. I am not looking to make friends here any more than I am looking to piss people off.
You might not be trying to make friends on this board, but if you wanted to do that, insulting the weasels from scUM is a great way to get it done! Good observation about their wine-and-cheese crowd.

Welcome, HornIn. There are several bars along Lane Ave. where you can watch the game. There's also a huge outdoor screen at the place called HineyGate in front of the Holiday Inn on Lane. Recent regulations mean that you have to be careful with open containers when outside, though; they have to remain in designated areas or you could get hit with a fine.

By the way, nice picture of the State Fair. I like the Burnt Orange on the one side, but what's with all that Crappy Crimson on the other?
Thanks guys. Yeah Bill unfortunately the crappy crimson has had way too much fun at the State Fair lately.

4) as for the other horns on here that think that selvin will not be productive, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I see everyone on hornfans talking about how he is a scatback, and how he wont run between the tackles, but the fact is that 2 years ago people raved about the way he hit the hole like he was shot out of a cannon(somthing that cedric still hasnt quite got ahold of) Short of injury(which would be the reason that i am forced to refer to 2 years ago) selvin will be a top tier back.
I am not ruling out the fact he can't be productive but the guy has not played a full year in 3 years by the time we get to the fall. He played a lot in his freshman season in 02 backing up Cedric. Since then he has had hamstring trouble in 03 and then the knee injury he suffered at Arkansas last year. Not to mention that he is not involved in spring drills since he has had the issues with his classes. Of course I hope he comes in and tears it up but this is not a given by any means. The Horns have quite a few strengths going into this year but at this point in time it doesn't really appear to me that running back is one of them. Maybe that will change.

Fort Worth,

That is a fair assesment, I guess that I just dont have the doomsday outlook that so many people see to have about selvin. The kid was a top running back at jersey villiage in high school and almost beat out benson for the starting job. Clearly staying healthy is a big deal and he has yet to prove that he can do so, but tOSU game is our second game of the year, If he is worn down after the Ulala game then we have much larger problems on our hands than just selvin young

ok now that I have sucessfully blown my first impression let me try again

1) I never ment for ya'll to be a blankett statment encompassing the whole board. Truth be told I am very impressed.
Now that's more like it! Something you'll find here at BP is that people will call you on weak posts or ones that are blanket statements (like yours)... but will give you some latitude as a newbie. Now if you made blanket statements about the integrity of tressel that might be a different story  Heck, I am one of the hundreds that has had to be groomed by the regulars before I learned the ropes.

If Selvin is back, I would expect him to be yet another great Texas RB. However Benson was unreal at taking on 8-9 men in the box. Anyway, we've got a lot of pride in our run defense (it's always what tOSU's been good against... especially under JT), and AJ hawk has many of us asking how close he is to the best LB we've had here (and that's saying a lot). If you guys can run good misdirection plays, counters, playactions, draws you have a much better shot at running the ball well. On an unrelated note, I don't know why I never noticed before the similar last names going on for you with the youngs going like we do (at RB for us... past: Jonathan Wells, Maurice Hall, Maurice Clarett... future: Maurice Wells, Chris Wells)

Do not take the PSU comparison as an insult. In 2002, we smoked a pretty decent WSU team, a decent TxTech team, and just destroyed many of the early teams on our schedule. Now Clarett's health didn't help, but it took Gamble's INT TD against PSU to win that game in 02, and that was at home. They play us tough every year (last year was the exception), and most tOSU fans are much more afraid of playing @ Penn State than any place but Ann Arbor.

BTW, that sig pic with Tex/OU fans is awesome.

I never understood why it was a "Home and Home" series. That's the way I've always heard it. I think it's even dumber than the "foul pole" in baseball.

Another stupid baseball phrase is "The hit and run" for when the baserunner(s) start running before the batter hits the ball...it should be "The run and hit". One of the baseball announcers here who calls televised Hawaii games here calls it "run and hit", but it hasn't caught on anywhere else (that I know of).

Fact is, neither team really has a proven RB. Both have some great raw talent waiting to be tested. If one team gets good production out of the RB position and the other does not, that could be the difference in the game.

That said, I think the real key will be our OL vs their DL. If I've got the picture right, their DL is big, strong, pretty fast, and experienced. Easily the best DL we'll face until maybe scUM. Our OL is experienced, but remember how poorly they started out last year. Thank goodness they finished the season strong. The question is whether they can continue to build on their late season momentum. Forget the talk about Vince Young, our receiving corps, and all the flash positions (exciting as they all are), this game will be won in the trenches.

It's Texas-Oklahoma. The Red River Rivalry game is traditionally held at the Texas State Fairgrounds, with half the seats going to OU and half to Texas.

The A&M vs. Longhorns game alternates between College Station and Austin, just like most conference rivalries do.

Nope the crimson is OU. The Red River Shootout is played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas during the State Fair of Texas every year for a neutral setting. Dallas is basically equal distance between Norman and Austin. They split the fans at the 50s and both schools have fans from one 50 to the other with one endzone each.

I thought they were A&M fans? Maybe some clarification is in order. :wink2:
this actually turned into a rather heated discussion before the rose bowl with those other big ten fans, they couldnt understand why we would want to have our "biggest" game of the year at a neutral site. All that I can say is that if you ever have an opportunity to go see the red river shootout, dont pass it up, it is truely a site to see.

I'd never want to give up playing at the shoe, but the prospect of having the fans split right down the middle is pretty neat. edit: yeah I can't read apparently, removing the question

I'm sure you guys will be buying up any tickets you can find, but we can promise you that there will be very few areas with lots of orange (what color do most horns call it?)

we call it orange, i guess when they get specific burnt orange. to answer your question about the "clumps" yes there are a few scattered people in the wrong color, but for the most part it is not visible from a distance, to tell you the truth it would take large balls to sit in the middle of the other teams fans on that day
