Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

as soon as the refs signaled that the FG was good, i thouht to myself: well, we're in for one of Tressel's patented 10 point blowouts... i could hardly believe that he ran up the score and let Pitt get in the endzone... :p
Even after all these years, Coach Tressel continues to surprise us.

This has to be a nightmare for the opposing o/d coordinators. Imagine their surprise when tOSU is slinging passes with a 10 point advantage in near the end of the game - or when Troy Smith doesn't run at all. I absolutely thought they were just hiding the scrambles during the NIU game to mess up Texas' scouting.

Tressel is the grand master of strategery.

Too many ( 1 ) missed easy field goals.
Too many ( 1 ) outrageous bad roughing-the-passer calls.
Too many missed tackles .... waaay too many.

Otherwise, GREAT GAME !!!!

I hope you are talking about the officiating there.......because they clearly missed that call, what a crock of shit it was. Field goals on the other hand.........ouch.

Hey guys, I hate to toot my own horn here, but it seems like most of my McCoy thoughts came true tonight. We realized that he is just a kid, and that our defense is much better than many envisioned. The scary part is, we have a rotation that is plain sick..............seriously.

He looked like a deer in the headlights this evening............
well you can toot your horn all you want... I can't say I agree. Colt didn't look scared at all out there... he got destroyed many times (including option runs) but never seemed to be rushed out there. The roughing the passer call was bogus, but he stood there like a man and threw the pass despite the ensuing destruction.

I thought he played a fine game other than the pick, which seemed to be a misread more than terror as you seem to be suggesting.

Are you serious? He had one less interception than Vince did last year. How many dropped balls were there by Texas receivers? What if Pittman didn't fumble that ball? I'm not saying we still would have won the game if all that hadn't had happened but I'm certainly not pinning this all on McCoy. He did pretty darn well considering the circumstances.

I'm sorry...I think your really reaching here in an effort to toot your own horn.

Longhorn Fans: A

I just wanted to post that I had an overwhelmingly positive experience with the Longhorn fans here in Austin. Several of them went out of their way to play host to me and my Dad. We had a great time.

Yes, there was one guy who wanted to fight me, but we talked him down from the ledge. Overall, it was incredibly positive. Texans know how to eat and party, for sure.

I might add that their team's very talented and played very well. They tackled incredibly well and ran very well too. Great game versus a great team.

Congratulations, Buckeyes

Man, you put it on us tonight. I was thorougly impressed with Troy Smith and your two top receivers. We just couldn't stop them. I think the score could have been worse (although it could have been closer, too, if it weren't for that damned fumble).

I don't think we'd beat you very often if we played 10 times. You are the clear front-runners for the MNC at this point, perhaps with close competition by USC (and Auburn? haven't seen them). LSU will choke, as their coach is a bona fide idiot. WVU will probably run the table. Someone will take out ND. So, I guess it's WVU, USC and Auburn between you and another title.

I hope everyone who visited had a great time. I'm not too upset by the loss, as our QB is just too green to lean on heavily at this point, and we were too crippled in the secondary to keep up. I honestly don't know if Tarrell Brown would have done much better, but he couldn't have done worse. Aaron Ross had a horrible game.

I wish we had just continued to run the ball. I understand how that's hard to do down 10 or more, but jesus, your defense had a hard time with our line and our backs. We just got in a hole and that was it.

I'm a Buckeye fan for the rest of the season. (Actually, my ex-wife is a tOSU alum, so I'm familiar with your program. Doesn't mean I have to like losing to y'all, but whatever.)

Go get another BCS title . . .

I thought McCoy looked great for a young QB. We RATTLED his body twice to end the half and it didn't seem to phase him nor affect his game. Well done. Generally good decisions (1 bad INT), good mobility, great escapability from the 1st hit, ok to decent throwing (I thought this was his worst asset, and from what I hear that won't be the norm. . .), and great composure, especially for his age.

Props. He will be good for you.

Great Game Guys

Great Victory against the Horns. Austin is definitely not one of the easiest places to get a victory at. We have had the damdest time trying to beat them there as well in our own place.

We are going to find out next week where we are on the natl scene. Could you spare some D Backs? Huskers have a great front 7 but our back 4 worries me. Jarrett, Smith and Turner! Matchup Nightmare!

Hopefully our staff can take some tidbits from your performance in Austin as it relate to our matchup with them in Oct. Thank goodness we have them at home.

Nice post, Jimmyjazz--you're a class act. Actually, I hope UT runs the table too, now that it's all over.

I'm a Buckeye, but have lived in Texas over half my life--Texas folks are the best, and so are Ohioans.

All the best, and have a great season.

Well, great outcome for the Buckeyes...I again want to say what a pleasure it is to have the Texas fans here...There's something between our two schools that links us together somehow...I may be just a drunken idiot here, but to me, there is something about our schools that goes hand and hand...I've always been a Texas fan...It's been tough to say that since these games were scheduled, but it's true for me...I wish nothing but the best to the Longhorns and all our Texas fans here. No other fan base compares to you guys. Great fans, great people...I hope all of you stick around, it wouldn't be the same without you guys here...

I think they're much better than any of us have realized they are. This is a really solid, bend-but-dont-break defense, and the offense can match anybody TD for TD.
honestly, the D, especially the secondary, reminds me a WHOLE LOT of the Miami secondary in '00 and '01... freaking ridiculous talent at every position... i think we played 9 guys in the secondary and THEY ALL MADE BIG PLAYS...

holy smokes, i'm rewatching it and Troy just overthrew Teddy on a sure 70 yard TD... i didn't think that it was possible to overthrow Ginn... Troy has the biggest arm in Ohio State history...
