Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

No doubt and its not an issue of the OC making an adjustment. Its entirely a matter on if the rookie quarterback can execute consistently enough, make the right reads and get the ball on time/on target in the face of what will be a very intense pass rush all night long.
I totally disagree that its not an OC issue. Some plays work against constant pressure, plays that take to long to develop don't. If Texas gets constantly stuffed and sacked, do you not think that Greg Davis will get some of the blame?

As I said earlier, when you go into an aggressive blitz mode you WILL give up a few plays but you will also make a lot of big plays. Thats why you usually see a steady diet of blitz's in two cases.... where you are playing a team that you believe your corners and safties can match up man on man without too much difficulty and ESPECIALLY when you have a ROOKIE Quarterback. Rookies are prone to make mistakes, miss reads and not play well in the face if big pressure.

Thats why you will almost certainly see 9 men in the box. Negate Charles ability to control the game. Force the rookie quarterback to consistently make plays.
Is it your viewpoint that your secondary can match up with our receivers man on man? If you are putting nine in the box, your safeties will not be covering our receivers. Putting nine in the box, and leaving one on one coverage of Limas Sweed, Billy Pittman, Quan Cosby, and/or JFinley? It doesn't take long to through a quick slant, or just throw it up to Sweed who is 6'5". People have come down hard on Greg Davis in the past, but I stil think he will be able to handle it.

I can't wait until this game finally gets here and gets over with. I think there will be some sort of meltdown on the boards, though, when the game is finally over. I mean we are 5 months away from the game and this thread is already 50+ pages. What will everybody do? There won't be anything left to debate or discuss... LOL!! Just kidding- of course the final score and the role the officials had and if they made bad calls will be talked about in this thread until next season.

But seriously- Is there anything left to be said, disected, and then taken wrong or out of context regarding this game? I mean, 50+ pages is a lot of space to say nothing new.

So, I for one am going to try to take this thread a different direction. I won't discuss depth charts or match-ups. I won't address coverage schemes or trick plays. I refuse to comment on whether or not the Texas WR's are going to suffer because of VY's departure. I will not review game histories of common opponents. I will not debate B10 vs. B12 relative strength. I will not talk about our loss last year at The Shoe. I will not compare last season for us to the season Texas had in '04. There will be no waxing poetic or setting any players up on a pedestal.

No. There will be none of that for me. Instead, I'm going to talk garbage. I'm going to break the civility code between Texas and OSU fans and speak from the heart. Information-based analysis is done. Emotion-based trash talking shall now commence:

Buckeyes will win big. They will win HUGE. They will destroy the opposition. They will make our opponents cry for their mothers and beg for their lives. The Buckeyes will roundhouse kick the Longhorns like Chuck Norris does to bank robbers in "Walker: Texas Ranger". They will be a force so destructive that the government will set-up a relief fund for Longhorn families torn apart by the carnage. They, quite simply, will dominate. I may be completely wrong, but goddammit I'm sick of thinking rationally. Buckeyes win 55-14. GO BUCKS! DESTROY TEXAS!

Well my dear Waston, by looking at his post count and reading his latest response I can deduce, and feel 100% accurate I might add, that our young alum01 was clearly not on this board durring the build up to last years game

Maybe the Fiesta Bowl is still fresh in my remembery, but this statement reminds me of Notre Dame fans.

I'm not saying that having a 6" height advantage over the defender is meaningless. It's actually a very nice advantage. But we all saw how it helped Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

At least the altitude gave them the advantage of a more comprehensive view of the arse-kicking they were getting from Ohio State :slappy:

If you're going to make outrageous claims like this, you're going to have to come up with some statistics skewed completely to your side and then ignore any posts that rebuff said statistics or come up with more to continue to draw folks into your web of circular logic. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read back a few pages, you will.

You would, in fact, be 100% wrong. My post count is not high because I don't normally chime in on every topic, on every board, in response to every post. Moreover, I WAS here for the build-up to last years game, and at that time I was even less interested in disecting the game for 100+ pages, when in actuality nothing new was being said. I have been a member here for the duration, and prior to that I was a member at Bucknuts dating back to 2000, when it was still an independent site and Duane Long posted free updates. I think you confuse quantity with quality.

I understand everybody is excited about the upcoming showdown w/ Tejas. I understand everybody loves talking about this game. I was merely stating that I am at the point where I'm ready for the game to get here already, and don't feel like anything new can be said right now that hasn't been said 100 times before. I'm not saying anybody else shouldn't. I'm not saying people should agree with me. I also want to point out that Texas fans are some of the best, especially when coming onto an OSU board. But......

I also feel a little spicy and want to make some inflamatory statements. This post, and the last one, are meant to be taken as good natured jabs at you Texas fans. So, again, GO BUCKS! We're going to frickin annihilate you Longhorns. Buckeyes 55-14. Again- I'm throwing logic, reasoning, and better judgement out and saying were gonna win big. Now you can proceed to give me every statistical argument against this, but I've heard em all. And I could go back over the last 50 pages in case I missed them. Bottom line, lets frickin play already!! I can't wait. GO BUCKEYES!

actually I believe our safteis could cover mostly anyone 1 on 1. Remember one played a bit of cornerback with Patterson running a 4.4 , and with Jamario O'neal (4.3's) being one of the fastest players on the team.So its definatly possible for our safties to get the job done 1 on 1. I wouldn't recommend it because then who covers the middle of the field but they're certainly capable... I think we'll see a lot of stunts and blitzing from the front 7 first, and if that dont' work we'll throw the kitchen sink to get to the QB. IF we get to the QB we win the game IMO.

You are right. I need some good statistics for my OPINION to be more accurate and relevent. :wink2:

I will point out the following stats. I think they, when taken with everything else said in this thread, prove I'm right:
A.) 60% of the time, I'm right every time.

To apply that in another way-
B.) 80% of the time, tOSU wins every time.

And, most important-
C.) 99.99% of the time, Michigan sucks every time. This last statistic does have a margin of error of +/+ .01%, depending on the existense of college football.

Not quite. This site has existed since May 2003...you joined Jul 2004, behind 761 other members. Now, in your defense, you definitely were around for last year's Texas game thread...however, you're not a charter member as you imply.

Mili- once again I stand corrected. I was not a 'charter member'. I did not mean to imply such a thing. But I have been lurking longer than posting and I'd say I've been around awhile. However, I have been shamed by your easy to do research and will accept my banishment for material misrepresentation:tongue2: .
