Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Their linebacker crew is not as good as last season.......The lost a lot of size on the defensive line when 300+ LB Rodrique Wright left, they've replaced him with a 275 pound DT.

At LB we replaced a somewhat overated MLB who ran a 5.0 40, with a more athletic younger player. Last year we had one player with starting experience, this year we have three, and the backups are much better.

Do you really think 25 pounds makes a big difference at DT? Miller and Lokey are both stronger and quicker than Wright ever was. There is no dropoff at DT.

Wright was a 1st team All-American, and I think your MLB was a 3rd team.

But the back-ups are better.

i would say it was a combination of they didnt want 2 show texas everything and they didnt want 2 risk him getting hurt. im not sure but that seems logical enough
:io:

bingo

between G & G. Texas will not be able to cover the deep game at all.
Those 2 were so open down the field it was kinda funny thinking Tressel knew what they could have done quite a few times but, didn't. I kept noticing Smith looking down field before, passing it short.

Tressel ball wins and hides what they can really do.

We'll know who's the idiot in just over 6 days.

I disagree that the Texas offense and tOSU defense are unknowns. If N. Ill can run up 350 yards on tOSU, Texas will have 400+.

As far as the other matchup goes, both teams bring back a similar amount of talanet and have improved to a similar degree, so I think it's a push. In other words I expect tOSU to get about the same amount of yards as last year (255).

If those numbers are true then tOSU needs turnovers and big special teams plays to win. During the Off season I said that Texas should be a 14-17 point favorite. Well tOSUs defense is worse than I thought, and Colt is better than I thought he would be so I'm revising it up a TD to 21-24 (given 0 net turnovers and similar field position).

I haven't read any posts after this because as soon as I read this priceless gem, I just had to start a-typin'.

The winner of the game won't be what determines who's the idiot here...it's clear by your posts who rides the short bus. You can't seriously think that Texas should be favored by 21-24 points...the whole state of Texas doesn't produce even crack to induce a stupor deep enough to believe that. I'll guarantee you that OSU has more--significantly more--than 255 yards of offense.

Breaking news from several Texas boards. Starting CB Tarrell Brown arrested with Aaron Harris. Both have been charged with minor possession of marijuana. Brown was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

We'll see what happens with this.

I don't think the deep ball will be open all the time as you suggested. Texas has the best DB's we will see all year and they will have Ginn covered pretty good. If Ginn can get open even with all that pressure on him, watch out. Other guys will step up, but whats great is Smith can see all of these guys get open now. The Texas defense vs. the Ohio State offense will be a battle for the ages.

Well, shit. This really changes everything.

How in the hell do you do something this stupid just days before the biggest game of the year? I can't comprehend what is going through Tarrell's head.

Yes, innocent until proven guilty. Might have been a cop with an agenda. But he put himself in a position to be arrested. Unacceptable.

This stuff drives me crazy.

i think that at first they will hav ginn contained but throughout the game they will hav 2 put some of that coverage on other guys so ginn will then start to explode past the secondary for those deep passes so familiar to him and troy at least i hope so

Potential replacements for Tarrell Brown:

Brandon Foster- Senior career backup. Very fast but undersized at 5-9.

Ryan Palmer- Redshirt sophomore I think. One of the fastest guys on the team. Also undersized at 5-9. Was probably slated to take over Tarrell Brown's job next year.

Deon Beasley- True freshman. Rivals National Top 100 athlete. Played multiple positions in high school including receiver. Probably the most athletic of the these 4.

Chykie Brown- True freshman. Another Rivals National Top 100 player, but was a cornerback all the way. He's the biggest of the 4 at 6-1. Should be a good one for us next year.

My money is on Ryan Palmer. Yes, there will be a dropoff from Brown. This probably alters Chizik's gameplanning a bit.
