Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Here's the question from where I'm looking at this game.
Texas was soft, super soft, and couldn't win the big games...sometimes not even showing up. They always had great talent, and just as much speed as this year's team, but they did nothing with it.
And then there was Vince.
Vince Young was a phenomenal leader, besides being a freakishly gifted athlete. Without Vince Young the Rose Bowl against scUM, the tOSU game, as well as the NC game to the condoms are all losses for Texas.
And now there is no more Vince.
Without Vince Young, will Texas go back to the soft, sissy team that got bushwacked by Oklahoma by 50....twice?

Is Mack Brown a better coach than a few years ago, or did he have that one special player that made everything work?

Here's some things to think about ....

1) You can argue that you have some of the best Recievers in the nation, but that don't really matter if the person throwing the ball isn't up to par does it? Colt and Jevan are fine talents but if Vince Young had troubles against our defense then what makes you think the other two kids will do that well?

2) If you were only able to manage around 120 yards rushing (75 coming from VY) against the defensive front from last year, What does that mean for an offense who lost their focal point on offense. The osu defense is now capable of keying on those talented running backs. Not to mention most of us (including myself) think this defensive front for the buckeyes will be a lot quicker and probably a better run stopping d-line, and more notibly dangerous rushing the passer.

3) So you say you return 3 o-lineman from last year. Well so do we, and we actually return 5 starting lineman if you go by your standards. We have 3 true returning starters and the other 2 (Boone/Rehring) have started at times last year. Both teams will have exceptional o-line play.

What this game comes down to I think will be who can run the ball?? With both teams having good running backs/o-lines it's probably going to be decided with who can maintain the best balance to go along with that rushing attack and because of that tosu can create a lot more problems than Texas can. Don't forget what having a true leader at Quarterback (Vince Young = Troy Smith) can do for a team. You saw what Vince did last year, and I look for Troy to do the exact same for our team this year.

Again, please show me of the 3 things I mentioned where your disagreement is. If Im wrong or delusional I believe there are enough RATIONAL horn fans on this forum that truely know the makeup of our team and can correct me.
I guess my disagreement comes from the combination of the 4 things (including how great your defense will be next year) and that you aren't predicting a 99-0 blowout. If the defense is going to shut down Ginn and end Troy Smith's Heisman hopes, and your OLine/RB/WRs are "arguably" the best in the nation........what hope does the rest of humanity have? If you really believe all that, how can you not predict a 50 point win in Texas' favor?

I think that you just proved how much of an issue he actually thinks the QB thing is, though he clearly says they wont struggle like some think, so who knows?

Hey, it looks like you're going to be fine on 1st and 2nd down, but it seems to me that you're expecting to never have situations where it's 3rd and long. It still seems to me that this is ignoring the gorilla in the room; the young QB and the limitations that having a young QB causes. What grasp will he have on the system and how does this limit the offensive game planning? How does his inexperience affect play calling and will a coach, any coach, feel comfortable using the entire play book, even if the QB knows it (a huge factor IMO)? Does he understand game situations i;e, getting up to the line and spiking when necessary or not taking a sack when in FG range? Anyway, it's like I said earlier, the analysis of this game must start and end with Texas' QB situation IMO and god forbid "situation"="controversy" or worse yet rotating QB's :sick1:. I think Texas fans know a lot about that as well...hehe...Not sure how you personally feel about it, but is there a chance you'll be rotating QB's as part of the game plan?...

Here's my prediction, Justin Zwick plays from the third qtr on, and it's not due to a Smith injury.

Unless you are trolling, you are a complete and total idiot.

I do not comprehend how anyone would think that TS would be pulled for JZ (other than injury).

Oh Wait!!!!

I see....

You mean that after the 3rd, JZ will be in for mop up duty!!!!

I get it, ignore the first part of this post. You, are a genius (UTMNC = Super Genius!!).

Will Smith get tossed for having too many excessive celebration penalties? Will he be running so fast that he just can't stop in time and runs clear out of the stadium? Will he be arrested prior to the game and not play in it at all?

You can't possibly think he will be replaced by Justin Zwick because of poor play.
