Game Thread Game Three: #1 Ohio State 37, Cincinnati 7 (9/16/06)

Halftime thoughts...

--Mark D made life tough early...he had Troy confused and forcing things.

--Where is Curtis Terry? Homan must be hurting still. Kerr is a step slow.

--DLine played out of control early and came together late.

--Pittman is the best RB on the roster right now.

--Laurinaitis is a stud and is starting to make plays that are not his. Incredible motor.

--The OLine is not focused...penalties and poor performances are hurting the O right now. There is no excuse for Alex Boone to get worked like that.

We were outplayed on both sides of the ball for most of the half. We're obviously flat after Texas and reading too much of our newspaper clippings. The silliness in penalties is hard to believe.

On the negative side, if Notre Dame comes out and kicks TSUN's rear, we'll lose some first place votes.

However, there is some good things to take away even at this point. Two long field goals. That builds up Pettrey's confidence. Having to cope with a bit of adversity. They haven't scored again and the youngsters stopped a couple of screens on the last two drives that were going downtown at the start of the game. A second half that we thought we'd be cruising through but now have to play hard. That'll keep us grounded a bit. It's one thing to say you are keeping your feet on the ground, another thing to do it when you are #1.

I'd also like to hear the halftime talk. I think the #1 team in the country is about to come back out on to the field.

Tressel is my boy don't get me wrong. But sometimes in the ebb and flow of the game, my emotions get caught up in it. It is because I care that I yell endlessly at the TV. I am actually harder on the team when we are winning. I expect more. Those that settle, lose their hunger. I am always hungry.

P.S. Gonzo for Heisman.

Go BUCKS!

I completely agree. I never understood the "We have to shorten the game" argument, no matter the sport.

Especially with football and especially with college football. What idiot stood up and said gee I wish this game would be over soon so I can go home and .....what? We wait all week long to watch our team on Saturday and it always seems like the games just fly by. Maybe ok to shorten the games in baseball and basketball where they play hundreds of games each year: but NEVER in football. I love every minute of it and no way should they mess with a good thing.

Yep and I have never gotten that with baseball either, when I go to a game I want my money's worth. Shorthen the ads or such but not the game play. 15 to 20 less plays a game is a lot and can casue some problems down the line.

Play calling to start the game was bad. It's rare I ever agree with TV announcers but in this case they were right. They came out acting like they had to finesse this team instead of running over them. The constant throwing didn't allow them to get into any flow of the game.
Play OSU football. Run over them and pass the typical 15 to 24 times. I think they passed 6 times in the first 7 plays.

I wasn't quick to pass judgment on Boone last week but I'm getting a little tired of his slow feet. He looks terrible.

Since I can't see today's game, and don't know defense anywhere near as well as you do.... do you think it's possible that he may try to do too much? I'd hate to see an opposing coach catch him out of position, and cut into his confidence....
