Game thread: USC 66, UCLA 19 (Final)

didn't he fumble on the one, which is why a 15 yarder moved it back to the 16? my memory is foggy.

On his 3/4 came-up-short somersault, he fumbled on the one, but his elbow hit the ground to cause the fumble; and they correctly marked him down at the 1, and then walked off the penalty.

Looks like UCLA's been exposed as another Pac-10 softie--a team like Oregon that can pound the crummy teams and run up a decent record against the inferior Pac-10, but when they face a good team, they fold like a deck of cards. Pathetic.

What I don't understand about this game is Karl Dorrell playing so close to the vest in the first half. They punted twice at USC's 35 and kicked two field goals instead of going for it from USC's 25 yard line. None of those potential fourth down plays was nearly as long as USC's 4th and 10 that Leinart converted on that last td drive. Playing the field position game might work against most teams, but you have to play to win against USC. Whats the difference between going for it on 4th and 4 at the 35 and missing it, or punting it into the end zone and giving USC the ball on the 20? By going for it, you give you team a chance to hang with USC and you show you believe in them. By punting it, you just add to Reggie Bush's yardage total and they still score anyways...

They've been exposed as such for about 5 weeks now.
Oregon is a little better - but like you said it's a testament to the weakness of the Pac-10 that those two teams made it this far with only one loss each.
