Purdue was driving to take the lead, and their QB got sacked, MSU picked it up and the guy wanted to lateral it, but knew it wouldn't have been backward. So he gets fumbles as he's tackled, and Eric Smith picks it up and takes it the rest of the way for Sparty.

Typical late season meltdown...they've done this every since the George Perles days. They are world-beaters for about 5 games, then have to battle to mkae a bowl (which they fail to do about half the time).
