Ohio State running back Antonio Pittman finds daylight as Iowa defender Mike Hmpal chases him during the first half of last Saturday?s Big Ten game. Pittman expects to get a lot of action early when the Buckeyes host Bowling Green today at Ohio Stadium.

KICKOFF 3:30 p.m. today, Ohio Stadium in Columbus.
TV ESPN Plus (Channel 43) with Craig Coshun on play-by-play and Chris Martin doing analysis.
RADIO Ohio State Radio Network (WHBC-AM 1480, WKNR-AM 850, WAKR-AM 1590) with Paul Keels, Jim Lachey and Marty Bannister.
ODDS Ohio State is a 351⁄2-point favorite.
THE SERIES The Buckeyes lead 3-0 and won the last game, 24-17, in 2003.
THEY?RE FROM BOWLING GREEN Actor Tim Conway and figure skater Scott Hamilton are graduates. Actor Robert Patrick, who played T-1000 in Terminator 2 Judgment Day. Former major-league pitcher Orel Hershiser went to BGSU at the same time as Massillon Washington High School head coach Tom Stacy. They were teammates on the baseball team. Stark County native Dave Wottle, an 800-meter Olympic champion, is a grad. Fox 8 news reader Wilma Smith is a grad. The first female star of silent films and Massillon resident Lillian Gish is a graduate as is basketball Hall of Famer Nate Thurmond.
GETTING TO KNOW GREGG BRANDON The veteran college football coach spent 22 years as a Division I assistant before landing his first head coaching job at Bowling Green in 2003. He led the Falcons to consecutive bowl wins in his first two seasons, just the second time in BGSU history that has been done. Brandon broke into coaching in 1978 as the head coach at Elliott High School in Colorado. He spent three seasons there before going to Weber State when Mike Price gave him his college start. He spent time as an assistant at Wyoming, Utah, Northwestern, Colorado and BG. He played college football at Mesa State and Northern Colorado, where he graduated in 1978.
WHEN OSU HAS THE BALL Ohio State had a letdown after beating No. 2 Texas at night. The Buckeyes were out of sync the next week against Cincinnati. It will be interesting what kind of enthusiasm they play with this week after beating No. 13 Iowa at night on the road last week. The Falcons are starting a 290-pound freshman at NT and a 260-pound freshman at DE. Look for the Buckeyes to establish he run early with RB Antonio Pittman. OSU?s offensive line is playing as well as any line under OSU Head Coach Jim Tressel. The Buckeyes will also rotate in their second-team OL early because that group did not get playing time against Iowa. Pittman is an unappreciated important cog to this offense. There is no sense in taking more chances than necessary with QB Troy Smith. Smith could put up Heisman-like numbers in a half if all goes well. BG won?t be able to match up with WRs Anthony Gonzalez, Ted Ginn Jr., Brian Hartline, Brian Robiskie and Roy Hall. Two sophomores start at CB and two freshmen at safety. Play-action passing could lead to a couple of big scores. Smith overthrew an open Ginn by a couple of yards early in the Iowa game. Look for them to go back to that. As Gonzalez continues to emerge (team leader with 24 catches, 373 yards), he will get more attention. That means Ginn should get some open looks deep. It will be interesting to see how sharp backup QB Justin Zwick is. Zwick, Tressel said, is working hard doing extra film study each week. The coaches are impressed with his attitude as a fifth-year senior in a backup role.
WHEN BGSU HAS THE BALL QB Anthony Turner makes this offense go. He is a run-pass threat, and OSU?s defense has struggled at times on the perimeter. Turner should not be taken lightly. He ran for 127 yards against Buffalo. He missed two games (suspension and injury). Freddie Barnes filled in, but Barnes will line up at RB and WR. He is athletic enough to make plays. The Falcons have some experience on the OL, but start an undersized LG. John Lanning goes 285 pounds. That will help with OSU interior quickness, but hurt against the strength of Quinn Pitcock and David Patterson. LBs James Laurinaitis, Marcus Freeman and John Kerr should have big games. BGSU starts a redshirt freshman at RB in Chris Bullock. He ran for 114 yards and a TD against Ohio University. OSU has 11 interceptions this season, more than all of last year, and has forced 13 turnovers. BGSU needs to take care of the football to stay in this game. Look for Brandon to try to shorten the game and possess time. NOTABLE Buckeye LB James Laurinaitis has an interception in each of the last four games. ... Tressel has won 55 games quicker than any coach in OSU history. He did it in 68 games. Woody Hayes did it in 74, Earle Bruce in 70. They were both in their eighth seasons. ... Smith is the all-time completions lead at Ohio State with 61.8 percent. He has thrown for 200 yards or more in nine of his last 12 games. ... New sod was laid at Ohio Stadium last week and is ready to be used. ... The Buckeyes are outscoring opponents 62-16 in the fourth quarter and averaging more than 32 points a game. ... Gonzalez has 24 catches, and 22 of them have gone for a first down. ... The Buckeyes have scored 52 points off turnovers. ... Bowling Green has played 25 true or redshirt freshmen this season and 17 players have made first career starts this season. ... BGSU has won five straight road games. ... Brandon issued a challenge to find a team that has played more than 15 true freshmen this season. Temple has played 19.

OSU vs. Bowling Green: Position-by-position analysis, prediction

By Kyle Nagel

Saturday, October 07, 2006

On Sept. 12, 1992, Bowling Green entered Ohio Stadium as Ohio State's first in-state opponent in 58 years. The Falcons made it interesting for the Buckeyes.
BG lost, 17-6, after holding a 6-0 lead. It was the first of three games the Falcons have played against Ohio State. They also made Buckeyes fans nervous in 2003 when Bowling Green lost, 24-17, and was driving when the game ended.
But everyone agrees this isn't the same Bowling Green team that visited in 2003. This team is young and inexperienced, already with an embarrassing 38-3 home loss to Kent State.
The Buckeyes, meanwhile, remain strong at most positions, with few visible weaknesses. They enter as 34-point favorites, with the toughest part of their schedule behind them.
Quarterback
A Heisman candidate in Troy Smith against a banged-up duo (C-J's Anthony Turner, Freddie Barnes). Neither BG signal-caller has tried to run the offense in front of 104,000.
EDGE: OSU
Running backAntonio Pittman has four 100-yard rushing games to lead a trio of talented backs. BG's Chris Bullock has 213 yards in a game and a half since becoming the starter.
EDGE: OSU
Receivers
BG's crew includes a converted tight end, a fifth-year senior who has battled injuries and the first true freshman to start at WR since 2000. Ohio State offers big-time playmakers.
EDGE: OSU
Offensive line
Center Kory Lichtensteiger anchors the only experienced part of BG's team, with two All-Mid-American Conference players. But OSU has allowed just six sacks to BG's nine.
EDGE: OSU
Defensive line
The Buckeyes are averaging 3.6 sacks per game, and two of BG's starters are
a true freshman (D.J. Young) and a redshirt freshman (Jacob Hardwick).
EDGE: OSU
Linebackers
OSU's James Laurinaitis has four interceptions, and two of the team's top three tacklers are linebackers. BG has Terrel White, the nation's third-leading tackler, and two first-year starters.
EDGE: OSU
Defensive backs
OSU takes a hit by losing safety Anderson Russell, but sophomore Jamario O'Neal is ready. BG's Jarett Sanderson had two INTs and a fumble recovery two weeks ago.
EDGE: OSU
Special teams
Aaron Pettrey has become consistent at kickoff touchbacks, and punter A.J. Trapasso
averages 50.8 yards for OSU. BG kicker Sean Ellis has failed to convert two PATs.
EDGE: OSU
Prediction:
Ohio State 45, Bowling Green 3

SCOUTING REPORT

Bowling Green at Ohio State
Kickoff: 3:40 p.m.
Records: Ohio State is 5-0, 2-0 in the Big Ten; Bowling Green is 3-2, 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference.

Notebook: The Falcons use two quarterbacks with sophomore Anthony Turner (back after an injury to his nonthrowing shoulder) and redshirt freshman Freddie Barnes. Barnes, who has also lined up at wide receiver and tailback, is the Falcons' leading rusher (78.4 yards per game, second-best among quarterbacks in the country) and is 14th in the nation in scoring (9.6 points per game). Turner has thrown for an average of 155.3 yards in three games and has a 130.23 efficiency rating. He also rushed for 127 yards against Buffalo. Redshirt freshman tailback Chris Bullock has gained 213 yards in the past two games against Kent State and Ohio. Senior linebacker Terrel White leads the MAC in tackles and ranks third in the nation with 11.8 per game. Linebacker Erique ``Bull'' Dozier of Garfield High School, a sophomore first-year starter, has 49 tackles (including 19 against Buffalo), three for losses, a sack and four pass deflections.... OSU leads the series 3-0, but has only one rout, 44-13 in 1997. It prevailed 17-6 in 1992 and 24-17 in 2003, when OSU's Will Allen intercepted a Josh Harris pass on the final play of the game.
The pick: Ohio State, 45-17.

Ok it's gameday and I'm up and getting ready for work. I'm glad that I dont have to wait till 8pm for the game. Work sucks but it helps keep me docile while waiting for the Bucks to play.
I wonder who will be the game breaker today. Cripes it might be Tg on the opening kickoff .:)

BG?s Turner leads hyperactive offense
Expect unexpected from no-huddle

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

20061007-Pc-E7-0700.jpg
</IMG> Quarterback Anthony Turner is a threat as a runner and a passer in the Bowling Green offense.

The official name for Bowling Green?s department store of an offense is the "one back." That, however, is like passing off Walt Disney World as somewhat entertaining.
The offense and theme park are beyond description. They can?t really be experienced in a day and leave people worn out and asking for more.
What Ohio State coaches saw on film in preparing for the Falcons were no huddles, four and even five receivers, reverses to receivers, receivers throwing passes off reverses, direct snaps to running backs and the quarterback running an occasional option.
When Bowling Green quarterback Anthony Turner settles into shotgun formation against the No. 1 Buckeyes today in Ohio Stadium ? he never goes underneath center ? he won?t know the play until it is waggled to him from the sideline with the play clock winding down.
As far as the fun quotient is concerned, the Falcons (3-2) could be worth every penny of the $650,000 guarantee they are getting from Ohio State.
"It?s fun to coach that way," coach Gregg Brandon said. "It?s exciting for the fans. It helps our recruiting. I think it gives us an advantage in games where we might be overmatched. We need to keep people off balance and break tendencies. I don?t want people to stay one step ahead of us."
In 2003, the Falcons kept the Buckeyes guessing long enough to make a game of it until the final minute. Quarterback Josh Harris threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-17 loss.
The beat went on with Omar Jacobs at quarterback in 2004 and in ?05, and is continuing with Turner this season. Bowling Green is averaging 362.4 yards, including 208.2 on the ground.
Brandon isn?t promising that kind of show today. He?s concerned about a one-sided game against his young and rebuilding team.
"Their defensive line, that?s the best I?ve seen so far," he said. "They pushed Texas around. They pushed Iowa around. They pushed Penn State around. They?re just great players."
Turner, who is from Dayton Chaminade-Julienne High School, is learning on the job. He thought he would back up this season but became the starter when Jacobs declared for the NFL draft and was taken in the fifth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was cut.
"Omar told me I had big shoes to fill and that I had to carry on with the great quarterback history at BG," Turner said. "It has been exciting. At times, though, I?m thinking, ?What are you doing?? I?m still growing. I don?t know about throwing for 300 yards a game like Josh Harris and Omar. I just want this team to win."
There are a lot of choices for Turner. Ten players have caught at least one pass and 11 have carried the ball at least once. And he has seen some strange things from defenses..
"They?ll try to stop us by rushing only three and dropping eight into coverage," he said. "You never know what you?re going to see. Coach Brandon keeps it spontaneous, and that?s a good thing. No one knows what we?re going to do. We try to keep pushing the defense. We?re pretty hard to stop."
Turner supplies what Jacobs couldn?t, a running threat. He ran for 127 yards on 23 carries against Buffalo and 59 yards on 17 tries against Florida International. Of late, a shoulder injury has kept him playing it safe in the backfield.
"Anthony has all the ability Josh Harris had," guard John Lanning said. "He?s always so cool and calm. He has this attitude that, ?OK, guys, I?m going to throw a touchdown pass.? "
Barnes can burn defenses running (392 yards, seven touchdowns), catching (10 receptions, 140 yards) and throwing (27 of 50 for 210 yards). He started the opener against Wisconsin when Turner was suspended and against Kent State when Turner was banged up.
"We can do so many things," Barnes said. "It?s a burden on the defenses. It?s a burden on us, too, because our playbook isn?t like a telephone book, but it is thick. We?re also repeating things in practice to get things straight."

The event that has really thrown the TV coverage into turmoil is the Baseball play-offs.

Without the MLB Divisional play-of coverage there is litte doubt in my mind that Fox 19 would have picked up a clearance for this game.
But, with months to spare MLB elected to have a mid afternoon start, thus striking out the slot from Fox's schedule.

Glad I will be seeing this in person.

How can you make such a claim?

Who is this "We" you are talking of? Maumee does not = SW Ohio, and what you report is as I see it, misinformation.

Maumee TV listings are easy to show via TitanTV.com and they do not agree with your statement, nor any other of the TV clearance lists linked in by others earlier in this thread and the TV coverage thread.

In Maumee on ESPN2 at 3:30 PM they are carrying the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Just as they are around Cincinnati.

Maumee is getting the game on ABC channel 2, following the Penn State vs Minnesota tilt.

I have to conclude that either:

You do not know how to read your own TV listings (I'm leaning toward this explanantion), OR

You do not live anywhere near Maumee as your profile indicates, OR

You have confused ESPN GamePlan+ with ESPN2 (see explanation 1 above), OR

You are simply trying to underscore your status as a "Special Needs" BP Poster.

"We" of course would be NW Ohio who will be getting the MLB game on ESPN2 as I noted.
Obviously your misinformation is bout the gold cup.

The Buckeyes will be playing here (in Maumee) on Channel 13 , 8 on cable. Now I could make some conclusions of my own here but just because i'm so nice I won't.

Has anybody figured out for certain if channel 9, WCPO is going to air the game tomorrow. The DirectTv guide only lists the OU/TX game at 330. I am almost certain that they will but the tv coverage map doesn't list cincy and good knows it is barely part of the state.

See my post in the coverage thread:
