We proceeded to score a combined 142 points in our first 2 tries. I'm not too worried about it. Plus the defense will give up 140 points or less, so we should be just fine.

Figures, he was the first guy I listed :biggrin: , but it seems the point was well taken. I sure don't wanna drop 70+ on YSU, but this is big boy football, and like someone said, ysu will have enough quality players from transfers, etc, so we aren't going to feel sorry for them..... IIRC Michael Wiley scored the first 3 times he touched the ball, 3 different ways, and even returned a punt with like 8 guys on the field for tOSU....

Wiley had 3 scores on his first 3 touches against Rice, 2 were receptions (51 and 60 yards from Germaine) and the other was a 49-yard reverse.

The shorthanded 67-yard punt return was actually in game 2, by David Boston against Pitt.

It pisses me off to hear so many of you faithful loyal Buckeye FANS talking down about the YSU football team beingon the schedule for 3 years and how deflating this would be to Ohio State Football. I have been around football more than alot of you will ever know about the game.

Jim Tressel built his life around Youngstown State University Football for 15 years. Youngstown Ohio is still a great city in the state of Ohio which alot of you know nothing about.
Times have changed and the city of Youngstown is going thru alot of trying hard times. Not only Y-town but alot of other cities in the Great State of OHio
are experiencing the same hardships. Alot of you so-called loyal buckeye fans
are blind to this fact.

When YSU comes onto the Horseshoe next year to face the Buckeyes, they (YSU) will be proud to have stepped onto the field regardless of weather they win or lose the game. I hope that my good friend (Miliani will back me up on this post. I usually don't go into a rant in posting but this one really got under my skin. I'm proud of where i grew up in Ohio and will always remain true to the good city of Youngstown and the people who still live there.

I'm glad you have pride in your hometown team but this is a Buckeye website... these kinds of discussions are going to (and should) occur. I see no problem with the discussion and disappointment of OSU scheduling a Division I-AA opponent... Ohio State is one of the last Division I-A schools to do so. I have not seen one poster talk down the Youngstown State program. On the contrary many posters here have a good amount of respect for the program Tressel built and Heacock is continuing but understand that YSU will be sorely outmatched (talent-wise) on the field and the perception of playing a I-AA team could hurt the Buckeyes in a close BCS race.

kippy, I think you are taking this discussion a little too personal. Many Buckeye fans (on and off this board) also grew up in the Rust Belt and fully know the hardships going on there. And those that did not (like myself) have heard many stories about how tough it is there. I don't think there are too many Ohioans that are blind to that area's struggles, even the "so-called loyal Buckeye fans".

I would expect their team and fans to be proud of playing against one of the best teams in college football and what they have accomplished the last 20 years (to my limited knowledge of YSU football). I will be rooting for YSU to have a great season and a deep playoff run... with exception to one day in September! YSU's great runs in I-AA, coupled with Ohio State in I-A and Mount Union in D-III all give Ohio great pride on a national level in college football.

I don't know how many times we have to beat this into some people's heads...YSU is not just a "I-AA" team, but a perennial I-AA powerhouse that has played MAC schools dead even throughout their history (and no one complains about us playing Kent State, Akron, Bowling Green, etc.). And we've already covered ad nauseum how Florida's playing a I-AA team didn't keep them from making it to the national title game last year. Playing YSU will not effect our chances of making it to the national title game whatsoever.

OK, let's put this shit to rest. Here are the in-state teams that Ohio State has played since Tressel's first year (2001), in chronological order: Akron, Kent State, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Miami, Cincinnati.

Now, let's look at YSU's all-time records against each:

Akron 19-14-2
Bowling Green 2-4-0
Cincinnati 2-2-0
Kent State 6-4-0
Miami (0-0-0)

TOTAL: 29-24-0

Now, tell me what the problem is with playing YSU when there are no problems with playing other in-state teams?

Very good point mili.. the only thing is do the people who actually vote in the polls look at these numbers or only the D-I AA? I would assume most people are just looking at the AA.

However, Florida's OOC schedule included BCS powerhouse (at least in perception) FSU. Playing The Citadel certainly hurt Auburn's case for making a BCS title game.

With how Washington has crumbled since they were scheduled, I think our schedule compares more closely to Auburn 04 than Florida 06.

It's possible that our toughest game could be a DI-AA team, especially if more buckeyes transfer to YSU before the fall. I can certainly see that leading to disrespect from fans/pollsters, deserved or not.

Agreed but thats what makes scheduling games so far out hard to do.. who knows how Miami will be when we get to them with all the recent crap.. most likely still a contender.

Im looking forward to a forgiving schedule.. we've had one of the better schedules for a long time running now.. and next year will be another tough one.. we played 3 #2 teams last year

at the same time though.. it very well may hurt us depending on how everyone we play does.. would suck to get dicked out of the NC game.. need playoffs at the end of the year
