Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

I have posted this prediction at least 4 times in this thread. It shouldn't be a surprise to you.

It's not a surprise that you've yet to put the bong down. Nor is it a surprise that you haven't named your vBet on this. How about all your vCash on the over/under of NIU scoring 24? Tell you what, I'll match your bet 10-to-1. Bet all 700+ points you have to 7,000 points of mine. Deal?

I don't know. It's not that I don't think we wil socre 24, but I need to save some for Wolfe bets.

How about I put up 300, you put up 3,000?

On over/under on NIU scoring 24 points? Hell, I'll even make it 20-to-1. You wager 300, I'll wager 6,000. I'll even give you the win if it's a "wash" (NIU scores exactly 24 points). I guess the official way to do that is to make the over/under 23.5 points...deal?

That would still be a bad bet on my part. You wager a fraction of your points, and I wager almost half of mine. I'd rather do a signature bet then that as long as you don't cheat like you did last time (or so I hear).

Oh, geez, here comes the excuses..."I don't have near the points you have, so even though you're risking 20 times as many points, I'm still getting shafted". Wah. You want more points to bet with? Earn 'em...

It's not an excuse, it's the truth. I'm not backing out of the bet, just using points.

Try going to Vegas and pulling that crap. "Hey, I only have $20 in my pocket so could you please up the payouts on the slot machines please?" :roll1:

Over/under bets are always straight up...you win back what you put in. Still, I'm giving you 20-to-1 to show how dumb it is to think NIU is going to score 24 on us.

Hell Mil, if I had more money.......I'd take you up on that bet. The odds for me would be bad, but you never know..... I commend you for your ballsy bet. :lift:

And I still say 35-0 at the half, G-Force. Guess one of us is about to be very disappointed!

And I guess, while we are sharing opinions, you believe Wolfe will be the best running back on the field when the teams play and will perform as such.

I think he will get a running clinic from Pittman and that Pitt and Wells will be the two best running backs on the field on the day.

I don't expect you to agree with me. I don't need a reaction, by the way. We know your opinion and now you know mine.

The only thing that will reveal who is right is the game and there is no need for further elaboration.

Pittman and Wells could end up with better stats than Wolfe and still not be better RBs, for the same reason that Wolfe can run for 300+ yards against Eastern Michigan and not be considered the best in the country. Wolfe is going up against the vaunted OSU defense, while Pittman and Wells will be going up against a defense that Northwestern sliced through for almost 40 points, and Akron also put up a bunch of points on us last year (and Michigan). Our defense is more experienced this year, but if OSU is better than us at every position, than Wolfe is at a huge disadvantage. He'll take maximum advantage of whatever running room he gets, thats a given.

I'll say 38-21 OSU.

DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois Huskies continued their preseason training camp with a Monday double-session to start the final week of training camp before classes begin. During the full-pad morning session, NIU worked on position drills, red zone running game, kickoffs and wrapped up with 11-on-11 scrimmage action. The afternoon workout was held in shells and emphasized preparation for Ohio State.
The battle for the starting quarterback role between Phil Horvath and Dan Nicholson continues to be very competitive. Fans anticipating the end result in who will be named to take the first snap on Sept. 2 can be assured that the coaching staff is confident in each of its potential signal callers.
"The competition at quarterback between Phil and Dan has been great throughout camp," said head coach Joe Novak. "Both have had excellent camps and nothing has changed as far as naming one or the other as the starter. We have confidence in both, whichever one will be our starter at Ohio State. Ryan Morris has established himself as our third quarterback and we are pleased with the progress he has made."
Offensive Coordinator/quarterbacks coach John Bond sees the competition as one that will make both quarterbacks better prepared to be the starter.
"With Phil and Dan, we have two special guys who both obviously want the starting job," said Bond. "Every snap in practice is precious and the competition makes them better. It is also as friendly a competition as I have seen for two people who both badly want the starting job. They help each other out and both are a pleasure to be around. <!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE -->

<!-- STORY AD ENDS HERE -->"It is clear that both quarterbacks are going to be better than they were last fall, even though that may not equate to producing better numbers. Both put up awfully impressive totals last season, but our main focus is getting better not being hung up on statistics." The Huskies have a single practice scheduled for Tuesday morning before resuming with the final "two-a-day" of camp on Wednesday. Northern Illinois opens the 2006 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 versus preseason No. 1 ranked Ohio State in Columbus. The game will be broadcast live by ABC Sports beginning at 2:30 p.m. (Central). NIU opens its 2006 home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 9 in Huskie Stadium versus MAC opponent Ohio in the first of three straight September home dates for the Huskies. Season and single game tickets for the 2006 campaign are on sale now through the NIU Athletics Ticket Office in the Convocation Center. Tickets can be ordered by calling Ticketmaster at 312-559-1212 or on the internet at www.niuhuskies.com.
