From your point of view maybe my statements were absurd. From my point of view, my statements were simply a reflection of the world I see around me stated in a very matter of fact way. Everything I have said in this thread is very likely to be proven correct in 3 months time. The odds are in my favor. Surely, you can see that (and no I didn't just call you Shirley).

After all, how often does David actually beat Goliath in the world of college football? Not that often. A Goliath such as this year's Ohio State team? Never! The only way it happens is if half the Buckeye team goes down with the flu and the other half breaks their ankle on the first play of the game! You know, act of God type stuff. Just like ole David vs. Goliath.

Go back and re-read my previous posts in this discussion. I believe that the general public at large, even beyond those here on this site, would tend to agree with me that this game isn't going to be very close. Perhaps it would have been close in past years, like 2003 when the Buckeyes effectively didn't have any running game or in 2004 when we still didn't have much of a running game and on top of that we breaking in new QB's, maybe then NIU could be looked at as a possible upset special. Remember Marshall in 2004? This isn't 2004!!!!

Yep, thankfully it's no longer 2003/2004 here in buckeye world. This year the Buckeyes have a proven multi-dimensional QB, a proven vetern backup QB, a deep and versatile RB corps, an O-line that will likely be Tressel's best so far, 3 TE's and 2 FB's with previous playing experience, and I'll spare you any further mention of our WR's so as not to cause nightmares. Did you know that speed kills? Especially when you don't have much of it and the other team is loaded with it! Just ask Notre (d)ame. The lower case "d" was used for a very good reason.

Speaking of defense, the Buckeyes have plenty in that department you can be sure. Several new starters? Yes, but these buckeye defenders will have an advantage that most other defenses during Tressels tenure haven't had. This year's defense is coupled with a offense that should be able to score at will, especially against the likes of NIU.

This year's offense also appears to be built to be able to sustain long drives, chewing up clock while the defense rests. This year's defense won't have to endure too many 3 and out's by this offense. Unless of course you count the times the Buckeyes score in only 3 plays. (Insert sarcasm) Gee whiz, I didn't think of that. That kind of ruins my whole argument about the defense getting alot of rest doesn't it. (End sarcasm)

As for the personal insult (calling me a dumbass), I forgive you in the absence of an apology but please try to do better.

I'm not even French but nevertheless, I hereby formally surrender to all fans of opposing teams (excluding scUM fans because, well just because) and I also surrender to all Buckeye Planet memebers and moderators! I'd like nothing better than to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. Maybe we can all just join hands in a big circle around the Horseshoe and sing "Give Peace A Chance". NIU: 17

I'm only giving NIU, 17 points because it's the first game of the season, and there will be new starters, and they will more than likely be pulled before the game is over.

Defending Ohio State doesn't make you a loser, acting like you're in a "war of words" with somebody and that somehow if you don't win this "war" then the world will be over does. Referring to it as such and declaring yourself "the winner" also helps.

Settle down. You would do better to not lump every team into the "BCS Team" category. With teams like Indiana, Wake Forest, and Duke in that list, it really doesn't mean a whole lot.

Thanks! I generally don't post as much as G-Force even on the NIU board, I just throw an occasional comment in. G-Force made a prediction on the score of the game, you probably don't agree with it but it's just a prediction. I hope we can keep the game close too, with Wolfe anything can happen and I think that's what GF was referring to. We need to protect the ball better than last year against Michigan, that was ridiculous. The final score of the game will depend somewhat on how much Tressel substitutes as well as all the other stuff mentioned above. Honestly, I don't know how we stop OSU since we couldn't stop Akron last year, twice. Our defense will be better and we do have some talent so who knows?

It's always fun to play a team you don't normally play, just to see what happens. Should be interesting. One thing about our record against BCS teams - we pretty much always play on the road, since our stadium is small and most teams figure they have nothing to gain by playing us in Huskie stadium. The last 2 that did, Iowa State and Maryland, lost to us. So our record against BCS teams is a little deceptive.

Personally, I root for NIU and anybody that plays Notre Dame. Anyway, enough rambling for now.

Quit making yourself out to be some sort of martyr. You keep repeating the same crap, over and over and over. We've all seen your claim that NIU "puts a scare" into BCS team, and we've seen post the same list more than once. This thread has become nothing more than your little penis-envy statement thread on how you demand NIU be respected. News flash, we don't have to respect NIU or any other mid-level MAC team. We don't care that you're 1-7 against the last BCS teams you've played, regardless of how close a couple of the scores may have been. No matter how many times you post it, we're not buying it. If you want to bring some new discussion or observations into the thread, then fine. You've made a few good posts on team, giving specifics on players other than Wolfe and how they could impact the game...that's great. But rehashing the same "Wolfe is great" and "We scare BCS teams" over and over and over is not. Keep in mind that you're a guest here...

So who will be OSU's best defensive player this year? Who's the guy we (and the rest of the teams) need to worry about the most?

Shoot, you figured it out. :p

Make sure you click "Remember Me" and have cookies enabled. Sometimes I've noticed that in IE the front page will say you aren't logged in, but the other pages are fine.

As for the defensive players... let one of our football smarties give you the details, but I'd say the reports that they are gelling extremely well as a unit and have more overall speed than last year are probably as big a factor as individual strengths.
