Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

So you tell them to cover over to your site, but you won't come over to our's? What we aren't "worthy" of your time? My confidence doesn't come from the Michigan game last year, it comes from a history of playing well against BCS teams.
I'm not taking spadukin's side here... but the only decent "BCS team" in that set of 8 was 3 loss maryland.
Losses to: 5 loss Michigan, 5 loss Northwestern, 5 loss GT, 6 loss Maryland

Wins against: 6 loss Wisconsin, 3 loss Maryland, 9 loss Alabama, 7 loss Wake Forest

2005:
@ Michigan: L 17-33 (game should have been much closer)
@ Northwestern: L 37-38

2004:
@ Maryland: L 20-23
@ Iowa State L 41-48

2003:
No. 24 (thats what the finished the season) W 20-13
@ Alabama W 19-16
Iowa State W 24-16

So in our last 7 games against BCS opponents we are 3-4 with a -11 scoring differential in 7 games. So we are a school with a history of playing teams tough, a coach who knows what it takes to spring an upset, and the most talented team in school history, with argueably the best player in school history.

You guys play Texas the week after, so I hope you guys think we are a "warm up" for Texas. If you do get ready for a rude awakening.

How many times are you going to play that broken record?

I hope everyone of your playerrs feel the way you do. Maryland (who was ranked 13 at the time we playerd them) played @ Florida State the next week when we beat them. You guys play Texas the week after, so I hope you guys think we are a "warm up" for Texas. If you do get ready for a rude awakening.

However unlike you Tressel isn't a dumbass. He knows our history, he knows we have alot of talent, which is why I think you guys win the game. If he can't get your players not to look ahead to Texas, then the outcome could be different.

All of these teams are 5+ loss teams. Win or lose, the margin of victory was a touchdown or less. This argument is absurd. I honestly can't believe that this thread has made it this far. I don't see Cincinnati, or Bowling Green fans on here predicting a "scare" or "tough game." NIU had better be preparing itself for an epic beat down.

Don't you think that our players might be tired of hearing about how they are never going to match up to to last years D and maybe, just MAYBE, ARE GOING TO COME OUT IN THE FIRST GAME WITH SOMETHING TO PROVE?! I suspect that whoever touches the ball for your side best tighten down the chin strap and brace for impact. I don't see us looking past NIU, in fact, I see us looking directly AT NIU.

If we jump on them early and hopefully punish them with a traditional style running game, I wouldn't expect JT and Co. to break out any exciting material versus NIU because we have a much bigger challenge the next week. Of course this is not a new concept, but I think we get 50 the old fashioned way. Smash mouth football with a couple flashes of Ginn and Gonzo perhaps.

Hey,

Another NIU fan here. Not sure you need any more NIU fans on this thread as it looks like G-Force has kept it going really long already (took me a long time to get through it). Anyway, just a couple of comments. Most NIU fans know our chances of winning are slim. But no real fan is going to say they have no chance of winning, that's why they play the game. I'll be hoping we can hold OSU to under 40 points. Our defense will be better than last year but our tackling needs to be much improved, and our 'D' needs to get some pressure on the QB. Henne could have read the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy while in the pocket last year. Regarding Wolfe, there's really 2 questions, 1) how good is Wolfe? and 2) how will he do against OSU? and they're not the same thing. Wolfe doesn't have anywhere near the talent surrounding him that Pittman does so comparisons based on stats are iffy at best.

How good Wolfe does against OSU will depend on whether the QB can find the receivers to create balance on offense. If we can't throw consistently it will be a very long day. If we can, Wolfe will get his carries, we'll chew up some clock on 'O' and can make a respectable game of it.

You go ahead and consider yourself the winner, the rest of us will see you as a loser.

{trumpets sound}

All hail Buckeye Planet's mouthpiece BuckeyeNation27. He who speaks for everyone. He who can be counted on to kowtow to all invading non buckeye fans that decide to grace us with their presence. Fear not, fans of upcoming buckeye opponents for you have a friend behind enemy lines. As long as BuckeyeNation27 is logged on to this site there shall be no solidarity within the Buckeye Nation that he seems to be so inappropriately named for.

Thank you BN27 for being such a good buckeye neighbor. Here I am trying to fight the good fight against G-force and his misguided dillusions of grandeur and what happens? I'm here trying to making an argument in favor of our beloved buckeyes and in return I get a fellow buckeye calling me a loser. That's real nice. Don't worry everyone. If you ever need a hand, BN27 will have your back (and a knife to go in it)!

Dude, you rule. How'd you ever get so good?

Now BN27, before you come back with guns blazing (or even that knife I armed you with up above) please remember that after all, you did call me a loser. Did you think I was just gonna let that go?

Hey,

Another NIU fan here.

Hey NIU007,

Welcome to Buckeye Planet! Feel free to jump right in and mix it up! G-force will undoubtedly be happy to see you. He's been doing a good job but it's hard for one person fend off twenty. If you know of any other NIU fans that are pumped for this matchup, please tell them to come on over and state their case. It's gonna be a long summer and we all need our football fix if you know what I mean! I'm not one who typically likes to wish my life away but damn, September can't get here fast enough!

Go Bucks!!!

Thank God, I need some backup.
