Game Thread Game Four: Ohio State 31, Iowa 6 (final)

Ferentz and Iowa's DC Parker are two good coaches who will deploy a defense to shut Troy's running/scrambling down.

You got that right. I see this as a very low scoring game. On Iowa's side of the ball, I think that Tate's incredibly overrated and they still don't have a decent RB. Besides, they're going up against the best D in the nation, if you ask me. :osu2: On our side of the ball, Smith won't be able to scramble much (at least not anywhere near what he did against SDSU) due to the fact that they have stellar LBs. Additionally, I don't see us running the ball that well either: although their front 4 is new and weak, I think their LBs will constantly be shooting the gaps, forcing Smith to beat them with his arm. Besides, our running game hasn't been all that impressive this year anyway. I think this is going to come down to Smith throwing the ball well, which at least in part will depend on JT taking more risks on offense by devising some new ways to get Ginn and Holmes the ball as well as being willing to throw the ball more than 5 yards downfield. I like the Bucks, but it'll be ugly: 17-14.

okay, here's the question:

if Troy stuggles, and gets down, and is making bad decisions and turning the ball over, how short is the leash? apparently Tressel allowed JZ to struggle last season... will he allow Troy to so the same, or will Troy get the hook if he has a bad game?

The commentator on the SDSU game said in pregame that coach Tressel told him that Smith was the starter unless he got hurt or in trouble again.

Now, that's a press guy, so take it for what it's worth, but I personally think he's with Troy for the long haul.

I think he wants anything BUT a rotating QB system.

I think Tressel has settled on Smith as the QB for the long haul. But the leash is as long as the defense smothers the opponent. I don't see Smith coming out unless he throw 3-4 Ints and it is the 2nd half. But the leash is longer is we are only down 1 score. If somehow a lead gets to 2-3 scores then I think the trigger to put Zwick in becomes easier to pull if Smith is struggling.

But with all this talk about Smith vs Zwick, I don't care! All I know is I want Smith to throw/rush for 3 TDs with no Ints. Smith is our dance partner and it is time to start dancing!

I think we are going to pound these guys. Heacock is gonna let the linebackers lose on Tate. I wouldn't be surprised if Tate gets knocked out of this game. The defense is gonna be pumped for this one. The only way Iowa scores more than 14 is if they score on special teams or defense.

Iowa doesn't have a running game which will hurt them. I think we will sack Tate 4-6 times and get 2-3 Ints. Tate is a cowboy and like to have a gunslinger mentality. IMO it will cost him big time this weekend.

We need to run the ball straight at their DL. I haven't been impressed with Iowa defense all year. Run, run, play action all day long.

OSU 31
Iowa 10

I think the Buckeyes are motivated for this game.

what worries me about this game is that our defense has a lot of the same people from last years iowa game, which got absolutely demolished. Iowas lack of running game should have been even worse last year since they were starting blanket jackson at tailback and he was still able to run the ball fairly effectively. We are definitely going to have to do something different this year if we want to come out and stop them. I think if we can make Tate one demensional and make them have to pass it a lot then we should be in pretty good shape. Our offense should be able to put up enough points to win this one.

Does anyone else still hate nate kaeding for getting bullshit touchdown on us in the game 2 years ago when they didn't call the holding and then he went on to win the groza over nugent?

First our "D" can't let them score more then 17 or we're out of our comfort zone on offense. Second our "explosive" offense has to help out our "D" and not turn it over. Third our special teams need to be , uh, special. And get us good field position most times. Low scoring game. Could be another "ugly" one.
