Game Thread Game Four: #1 Ohio State 28, #24 Penn State 6 (9/23/06)

I'll see the first half on TV after which the game will be over. I have free Reds tickets and while they do suck it would be cool to see the UTs former backup quarterback hit a ball into the Ohio river live. I'm always a Reds fan whether they suck or not. Also its against the Cubs and they can actually win that game. And who knows maybe I get really Lucky and the Reds call up Homer Baily to pitch and catch his first cup of Coffee.

I watched the thumping they gave to YSU today\. Penn State ran the same shit at YSU as NIU ran at us, and you can bet the farm they'll be doing the same against us. I was not impressed at all with Morelli. The Penguins had way too many missed tackles (at least 20...no shit). If YSU knew how to tackle, the game would've been significantly closer. It was 0-0 after the first quarter and 20-0 at half...

Time do stick this thread at at the top of the football forum...

I don't see Hunt as a huge run threat so I think we can stuff the run. I wasn't impressed with Morelli against ND especially since he looked like he was forcing plays. Not sure how we'll cover Williams but if the pass rush keeps up that won't really matter. We smoked a better defense in Texas than what PSU has, though King and Ginn will battle it out all day for sure. On yeah, then there's the revenge factor...

Glad to get back into conference play!

Hunt's a decent back...they'll move the ball a little bit, but I don't see any long-drive TDs against us, and their holder has fumbled like 60% of the FG attempts, so they may not get any points at all, barring a broken coverage downfield leading to a big pass play. Morelli looks like he has a strong arm, but his decision making isn't very good, and for whatever reason they seem to run a lot of low-percentage pass plays in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, which will allow us to pounce.

I see a close game for a quarter and a half, and then a final of somewhere in the 24-6 or 31-6 range or so, circa 1993.

So will the students be back for this game? The games are always a little more fun when the students are there.

The Mongoose
Yes, they are trying to organize a Penn State RED OUT much like they did the white out to us last year..

"Last year, Penn State got 20,000 students to wear white. We can do better. Show your support for the Buckeyes and help turn the Shoe into a Sea of Scarlet.

"That's probably the best student section I've ever seen," stated Herbstreit of the more than 20,000 Penn State students who stepped up for the enthusiastic "Whiteout" of the Buckeyes."

And let us all remember that we are taliking of D-1AA Youngstown State, playing in Happy Valley. If the Nitts didn't put up big numbers it would have been informative, putting up over 400 yards on the ground has led Hunt to opine that their line is coming together really well. Methinks he takes too much comfort, too soon.

I think that was the same type of sunny report some Texas players and fans delivered after their tune-up against North Texas. We know Penn State will try more of the same against the Buckeyes, but I think this present happiness with their ground game will be undone against a much stiffer defensive front. As for Morelli's play against YSU, I guess if you are gobbling up clock and yards there is little need to chuck the pigskin. Still Morelli was only 11 of 27 for 154 yards, no TDs. The way our D is getting turnovers and sacks this could be a truly horrible day for their passing game.

This should get its own sticky thread to communicate to all attending next weekend's game.

How much more red could the crowd be? That is the part I don't quite get with this "Red Out" suggestion.

I guess we shall see when Penn State visits, it sounds like a good idea if it means there isn't a grey or white shirt in Block "O." For the most part the fans are clad in some form of scarlet when I see the camera pan into the stands.

I don't understand Buckeye Nation's resistance to this?

I think it would be surprising how much of a visual difference ALL SCARLET throughout the entire 'Shoe makes versus splotches of white, grey, black, etc.
