Game Thread Game Five: #1 Ohio State 38, #13 Iowa 17 (9/30/06)

Flutie is good friends with Tim Dwight. I'm guessing that's one reason for his Hawkeye love.

(A friend of mine -- who lurks on here -- was bowled over by Flutie (who was with Dwight at the time) when he was chasing down a fly ball in the Green Monster seats at Fenway. Nice guy!)

I was wondering how Iowa, despite their belief that they could,
cover all our receivers!
They couldn't...............

But, Iowa is a very good football team and could win a lot of games!

I'm not 100% sold that Iowa is that good of a football squad. They are probably an Outback bowl kind of team......they just don't have that much team speed on defense, and that sets them back quite a bit.

Flutie is a nice Guy! And so is Tim Dwight! But that's no reason for an analyst to push a guy that's nowhere near the QB others are. Lee Corso coached At IU but he's not pushing them for the NC. Flutie needs to do his homework if he's going to analyze College Football.

Did anyone hear the 'Nice pick Corso" Chants on sportscenter with the gameday team at Iowa? I cackled in glee. :) Where they THAT surprised the Buckeye fans stuck around?

If my math is correct, with OSU's victory over Iowa, coupled with Alabama's loss to Florida, OSU takes over 5th in all time winning percentage by six-ten-thousandths of a point.

OSU (.7116): 779-300-53
Bama (.7110): 777-303-43

:oh:

That's awesome. I smell a good photoshopping in the works...

Anyway, to put my two cents on this game, I couldn't be more impressed or happy with the way we handled the hype, the crowd, the stigma of playing a night game road opener, etc. It was like the crowd noise did nothing - no false starts, no holds, only 1 sack and a couple QB pressures. All in all the offense was amazing. I'd like to point out Boone, Rehring, and Downing...all either on the left side or (in TJ's case) rolling out to get an extra blocker on the left side. With just a little extra help, Pittman was able to show the nation his speed and toughness. Beanie got some pretty good looks as well! Smith, Ginn, and Gonzo made plays - and grass is green. 'Nuff said. The loss of Anderson Russell is saddening. I can't imagine what must have been going through his head after finding out his season is over. Here's to a speedy and full recovery Anderson! Last week strengthened my confidence in our defense, and I feel better with each week. These guys will be ready for Michigan.

I checked the new coaches poll and it looks like we're getting two more first place votes for a total of 62. Yesterday convinced me that these guys can and will play for the NC in any environment and any conditions. The only people still delusional enough to think we're overrated are probably ND fans - God only knows how their self-aggrandizing, pretentious fan base operates.

Did any one else hear Herbie say several times that Meechigan might be n02 by the time they play? He also said meechigan wuld be his N02 this week. Is this Herbie talking or is it the talking heads starting to build up what could be the game of the year?
I kinda think its the talking heads.

Yea, both him an Corso put Michigan as their #2. It could happen eventually in the polls, and I'm sure the media will be trying to get it that was just so that it's an omgmegahuge matchup.

I can see them getting up to 3, but I don't see how they'll pass USC especially since SC doesn't play ND until after The Game.
