Game Thread Game Eleven: Ohio state 25, Michigan 21 (final)

I know this thread is almost dead, but I can't let this one go...pay particular attention on "evilempire"'s posts. According to him, JT and Steinbrenner are in cahoots to drive scUM into mediocrity! It's all one big conspiracy to bring them down! When he says "Henne" he means "Henson".

ScottsdaleBlue made this following scholarlly observation:

"First thought- I don't buy Sweater Boy as kryptonite. Certainly he's upped their level of play and made them a tough game every year. He may in fact have "Carr's number" (though I don't think so), but he's only coaching 1 game a season against us. It's not like we're going 10-1 and he's all that's standing between us and the promised land. We've had an across the board decline, not just against OSU. I think Tre$$el simply has arrived on the scene at a good time more so than been particularly brilliant."

Uh, Carr's pre-Tressel records are very close his Tressel-era records:

Pre-JT:
1995: 9-4
1996: 8-4
1997: 12-0
1998: 10-3
1999: 10-2
2000: 9-3

JT-Era:
2001: 8-4
2002: 10-3
2003: 10-3
2004: 9-3
2005: 7-4

Fairly similar. He total record 1995-2000 is 58-16. His record 2001-2005 is 44-17. Now, you may think, "Hey, they're not that similar...the pre-JT era has 10 more wins and one less loss". Well, if you take into account his record against Cooper (5-1) and against Tressel (1-4), the record of the two eras become much more similar. Remove his success against Cooper and he's 53-15 (.803), and remove his record against Tressel and he's 43-13 (.767). Keep in mind that his pre-JT record is inflated by that fluke 12-0 run in 1997. In fact, if you remove that 12-0 season, his record over the remaining five years pre-JT is 46-16, which is nearly identical to his JT-era 44-17 record. So, the whining that Michigan's "overall decline" is more responsible than Tressel is for our recent success against them is pure bullshit.

a pretty intelligent poster detailing the woes for Michigan is always an enjoyable read.

Re: Is Eugene Clifford The Best Saftey in 2007?
JorEL- There were times when we absolutely the dumbest team I ever saw. Little things like running 5 yard routes on 3rd and 7. DBs not communicating like on Holmes' TD pass. Neither player took the dep 1/3. And 2 bonehead plays by Eker. RBs missing cuts, WR running wrong routes. Nobody on contain against Wisky. Nobody playing QB on goal line. Runnig D line twist or loop up front the LBer vacating the flat or letting RB cross their face. I am getting POed just writing this post.

this was kinda obvious, but I had never actually read anything about it:

The bigger/faster stuff is interesting..

Because we also use a S&C program called H.I.T.

I believe it was first used by the Roman Legion's in order to defeat Hannibal and his armies from Carthage...

And lucky for us...Hannibal himself seems to be related to Mike Gittleson our S&C coac...because that's the only reason I can think of for us to still use it..

BTW...PSU is basically the ONLY OTHER program in the nation to use it..

Gittleson's philosophy..."BIGGER is BETTER"...

The problem is..that worked in the 80's/early 90's..

Now with all the advances in explosive/speed training we are seriously behind..

We have guys putting on "muscle" by consuming 10,000 calories a day with stuff like chicken wings, pizza, ice cream, Oreos... and eating 4 Big Macs as a midnight snack..
I believe Gittleson handles the speed training as well (If I am incorrect please correct me for anybody who knows differently)
Wow...I didn't know that they had gone more to power lifting....if that's true then it's just another nail in the coffin of H.I.T.

This an on-going battle between Michigan fans..some have no problem with...others (most?) really hate it..

I was shocked when I learned that our players do not perform squats as part of their leg exercises...just this alone baffles me..

I do not profess to be an expert on weighlifting...but I always believed that squats were THE exercise when it came to building leg power...strengthening the base...

We need to switch to modern training IMO...it's just that simple..

H.I.T. does a great job of bulking players up...but it neglects to make them faster too...which in today's game is critical..

Our OL are huge...but they are SLOW....look at Prescott Burgess IMO he's gotten slower the last 2 years...too big...

The UM-MSU-OSU theory. . .
. . . did anyone else notice? The last time we beat MSU in basketball, was on our home court on Jan. 26 of 2003. We had lost 2 years in a row in FB to OSU, before we beat them 35-21 after our Bball team beat MSU.

We just beat MSU in Bball after losing 2 straight to OSU in FB. . .
