BuckeyeSoldier

2 time Reigning BuckeyePlanet Poker Champion
Ive been searching all night for a game like the one I envisioned in my head and since I havent found it I thought maybe it hasnt been made, but definitely should.

I want a game more similar to the game of thrones. Like a strategy rpg. There would be some combat but not based primarily upon that. You would play as a random character (you could design features of your character but you would be a low level "noble") But your objective is to rise up through the ranks via combat, espionage, backstabbing, bribery, treaties, alliances and eventually be king. to be completely perfect for repeat playability I think everything from factions, characters, landscape, events could all be randomized so every time you play the game would be a different experience. It would have to be pretty in-depth to avoid becoming repetitive, I imagine an engine similar to civilization 4. i guess it would be pretty huge because you would have to have multiple interfaces to deal with small scale combat, large scale battles, trade, assasinations, and diplomacy.

Thoughts?

Sounds like an interesting concept. Strategy RPG as opposed to 'hack and slash' that so many others are. Part Civiliation, part Nobunaga's Ambition, and part Skyrim. The character pool would have to be immense for replayability and random maps could certainly change the way the game is played.

I thought so, maybe it wouldnt be a blockbuster hit since so much of the game market seems to be driven by 13 year olds in love with action and graphics but I would think it could carve out a nice niche with the same people that make civilization popular. I just want to find someone to make the game so I can play it :p

Would be an interesting game. However, developers now aren't looking for a game that could be replayed a thousand times. They set a limit so that you buy the next installment...but I think it's a cool idea

Not sure if you've played it, but what you're describing is kind of similar to Medieval II: Total War. Obviously you don't start as a low noble, but you start as a small country with nobles already established as well as a chain of succession. When your king dies in combat, is assassinated by the enemy, or just dies of sickness/old age, one of his successors assumes the throne. Each noble has their own strengths and weaknesses, and based on your actions your nobles can be good and virtuous, or evil and cause dread. All nobles and generals have their own stats based on their actions as leaders outside of battle as well as in battle. I know it's not quite what you're looking for, but it's something that's already established and may tide you over till something comes out that better fits your mold.

You expand your empire through diplomacy, assassinations, war, scouting, sabotage, treaties, alliances, etc. The combat can be done two different ways: you can form your army and hit a target, attacking with hundreds to thousands of troops all in real time, or you can simulate a battle based on perceived enemy numbers against your strength and numbers. I usually simulate battles myself as they're far quicker, but sometimes it's fun to storm the castle with your legion of troops.

pirated the game... enjoying it so far, still more concentrated on combat that I was hoping with not much REAL negotiations at least early on. still fun, not sure why i hadnt played this sooner.

UPDATE: Ok, I really like this game. not perfect but closer than anything else ive found. Last night I started a campaign as britain, immediately went to war with scotland to get a strong hold over the brittish isles, I take half of their territory pretty quick and get a message from the damned pope telling me to stop attacking them or I will be excommunicated. I have no idea what the repercussions of that are so I obliged. Now I am stuck playing defense because appearantly no one told them not to attack me. REALLY irritating but I like that. getting screwed that bad feels more like real life sometimes.
