Country’s No. 6 TE drops top schools, includes Ohio State
Savannah (Ga.) Calvary Day tight end
Michael Smith is one of a handful of 2024 tight ends the Buckeyes have offered a scholarship. And he has been to an Ohio State game this season. Smith was in Ohio Stadium on September 24 as the Buckeyes beat Wisconsin 52-21.
“I’m in the in between stage, it’s a lot of them,” Smith said two days after visiting Ohio State in late September. “I feel like the hardest, the ones that are recruiting me hardest, Ohio State, Arkansas, South Carolina, like those three.”
So it’s not surprising that when Smith announced his top schools today he included Ohio State. Smith dropped a top eight of Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, Texas, Penn State and Arkansas. Smith dropped his top schools list on his Twitter account noting that he remains open minded.
As to why Smith included Ohio State, a lot of the reason was based on his Ohio State visit and what he experienced in Ohio Stadium.
The energy was live,’ Smith said. “I liked the atmosphere. The energy was just off the charts. Plus it was a blackout game so I felt like everybody in the crowd was into it. There was like no basic person in the crowd, everybody was into the game.”
Also, right after the game when Bucknuts asked Smith about the atmosphere at the game he said it was “over the top, felt like I was built for the atmosphere almost.”
