Holden Staes talks offer from Ohio State

Over the next couple of recruiting cycles, Ohio State is going to have to reload the tight ends room. The program will lose Luke Farrell and Jake Hausmann following the 2020 campaign, will lose Jeremy Ruckert after either 2020 or 2021, and only has Cade Stover (just switched to tight end this winter) and Joe Royer (true freshman) on the current roster behind them.

While the Buckeyes do have a 2021 commitment from Sam Hart, they still have some work to do to replenish what they're losing in Kevin Wilson's position group. Adding another 2021 tight end, like Hudson Wolfe, is certainly a possibility, but only if the prospect is a top target. Either way, 2022 will be a very important year for Ohio State when it comes to tight end, and the staff has started to make a push for some top-of-the-board players at the position.

One of those is Holden Staes, a 6-foot-4, 220-pounder from Atlanta (GA) Westminster school, who holds nearly 20 offers, with the latest coming from Ohio State.

Staes spoke with Buckeye Scoop after receiving the news of his full ride to Ohio State from Wilson and head coach Ryan Day.

"I'm definitely super excited," he said. "I love the entire coaching staff and the culture of the school."

Wilson is leading the charge when it comes to this recruitment, but he hasn't been alone in pursuing the rising junior.

"I've mostly been talking to Coach Wilson, Coach [Tim] Hinton, and Coach [Parker] Fleming," Staes told Buckeye Scoop. "They tell me they love my film. We’ve been on Zoom calls every week, where I've just learning about the program, specifically the Circle of Care, the offense, and all of the things Ohio State has to offer."

Staes has never been to Columbus, but that will change as soon as the ban on recruiting activity is lifted.

"I haven't visited yet, but they will be my first visit as soon as we're allowed to," he stated. "They're one of my top schools right now."

Sorry if this 2x posted. Just wanted to ask if anyone else thinks the tight end position..at least in this offense..is going the route of the fullback? With 4-5 wrs on every play do they really need 3 more TEs next year I f they're only used for 4th and 1 situations?

Been wondering the same myself. Ruckert is a beast, and I still don't see him being top 5 in any receiving category
