2025 GA DB Jontae Gilbert (Georgia Verbal)

Even then, anything before about October is still sketchy most of the time for kids not from Ohio
I really don't start following kids now before they finish their junior year unless they are from my neck of the woods in Ohio....for this reason. When he committed I have a half-hearted "yay!" because I had a feeling there was no way it would stick. If we get a verbal from a kid in the south more than a couple months before the signing period, it really doesn't mean anything unless there is some real tie to OSU.

Why commit. Do you understand the word?

Because kids committed to Ohio State make more money on their circuit of southern visits.

This. Gives the kid a credible threat of leaving to up his NIL deals and if worse comes to worse, holds a spot in the OSU class.

Kids aren't dumb.

Believe 86 got it in one. Early commit, no matter what ranking a kid has, to tOSU, automatically insures that they will get 'noticed' by more schools. As in "if tOSU takes their pledge, he must be good". Also a place holder, giving the kid a place on the roster while allowing him to tour other schools (believe tOSU still allows - as long as they check in with Day & Co), and I suspect, get them bigger NIL potential than previously. No knowledge of any of this, but just trying to connect the dots here. Wonder if this 'other visits' trip will be changed by Day & Co or not.

When he essentially used OSU as a negotiation tactic while being committed. By taking visits across the country every chance he got, I erased this kid from my memory. It's looking quite obvious that he's looking for a nice NIL deal(and I don't blame him), but his list is of schools that we'll rarely hear from him again. So meh, OSU has better DBs on their board. Woodby, Sanchez, Brew, McNutt and Zackery make Gilbert a complete after thought
