Butler headed back to Turkish league

Shawnee High School graduate Jamar Butler has signed with a team in the Turkish Basketball League, according to a news story posted on the web site eurobasket.com on Monday.
The former Ohio State point guard began the season with an Italian pro team, Eldo Caserta, but asked out of his contract after three games because of a disagreement with his coach. His agent John Spencer at first said he would be going to Turkey to play for a different team than the one whose roster he now appears on. A few days later Spencer told The Lima News that Butler had agreed to a contract to play for a German pro team, the Koeln 99ers, and was in Germany.
Butler scored three points and had two assists in 20 minutes in his first game for his current team, Mutlu Aku Selcuk Univeritesi Konya, according to eurobasket.com.

Jamar Butler pleads no contest to marijuana charge

LORAIN, Ohio - Former Shawnee High School and Ohio State basketball star Jamar Butler was arrested last week on drug charges.

Butler, 23, pleaded no contest to possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was fined $150 and had his driver's license suspended for six months, according to Lorain Municipal Court records.

The incident occurred Feb. 16. The Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reported Butler was arrested after police were called to check on a drug deal in a parking lot. Police spotted a parked vehicle and approached.

Officers spoke with men in the vehicle and smelled marijuana. They searched the vehicle and found three bags of marijuana. Butler said the bags were his, the newspaper reported.

Given where he's been playing recently, it's a good thing that the marijuana charge was in Ohio.

There is a difference between using a small amount of Marijuana and smuggling/trading large amounts. Also, events in that movie was grossly exaggarated, check this link for an account of the author himself. If you can not tell, I am of Turkish descent, and I am sure a Turkish prison is not a very amiable place to be but same holds for American prisons as well.

Butler apologizes for 'mistake'

LIMA - Former Shawnee High School and Ohio State basketball star Jamar Butler apologized to the community for his recent drug arrest in a letter.

"I am not a good kid gone bad," Butler wrote in the letter, delivered Sunday to The Lima News by his father, Melton Butler. "I've never been in trouble before, and promise you I don't intend to be again. I will learn from this and will make myself a better man because of it."

Butler, 23, pleaded no contest to possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was fined $150 and had his driver license suspended for six months, according to Lorain Municipal Court records.

Butler and another Lima man, Demetrius L. Upshaw, 22, were parked in a parking lot just before 9 p.m. Feb. 16. A Lorain Police officer spotted a suspicious car in a parking lot where police received numerous complaints and made past arrests for drug sales and abuse, according to a Lorain Police Department report.

In his letter, Butler wrote, "I know I've shocked and disappointed my family, friends and many of you who have supported me through the years."

Brief footage of the Clippers preparing for Summer League play. An addition to Jamar, Othello Hunter and Byron Mullens are also in Vegas. The Clipper's first game and pro debut of Blake Griffin is tonight, I doubt Butler gets much, if any run at all though.

According to greek media, Jamar Butler(1.85-PG) will be the first transfer of foreign players for the newly created team of Larissa. The name of the team is yet unknown and coach Kalafatakis that was going to be the head coach resigned.

The newly formed team of Larissa will be a union of Olympia Larissa and the former AEL team but the people who will be running the team are taking their time getting everything organised. They had already lined up coach Giorgos Kalafatakis but he decided to step down, probably realising the severity of the situation and how unlikely it would be for the team to survive in the A1 league without a roster, any preparation stage and no friendly games of any kind. Surely it's the main contender to be relegated to the A2 league and the season hasn't even started.

Nevertheless Greek media make word of Jamar Butler, who played for Caserta in Italy and Celcuk University in Turkey last season averaging 8.3 points 1.9 rebounds and 2 assists in 8 games in Turkey. Butler played with Kostas Koufos in Ohio State before graduating in 2008.

Hopefully this move will help in stabilizing Jamar's post tOSU career. His rookie pro season was a little rocky. Butler can be a very good international player. He has a nice and steady floor game with a good J, and he will be able to defend over there. Hope it works out.

Training camps are about to begin in October for professional basketball teams around the world. We can expect updates on some other Buckeye free agents like Ivan Harris & Brent Darby in the upcoming weeks.

Jamar Butler will continue his career in Germany. Eisb?ren Bremerhaven has announced the signing of the 24-year-old American guard to a one-year contract. Butler arrives to his new team after helping Igokea to reach the final of the Bosnian league. At the start of the season, he also played in Greece for Olympia Larisa until March.

Jamar left Germany in early Fall of 2010 due to a shoulder injury. He rested up for the duration of last season and signed (March 2011) with the Lima Explosion, an ABA expansion team from his hometown of Lima, Ohio (link).
