G/F Evan "The Villain" Turner (2010 Naismith Winner)

His 17 pts tied for the team lead. Very good game for him today!

This off season is going to be key for him. It's just like his 1st yr/2nd yr at OSU - once he gets comfortable he'll start to shine. He has some things on which to work but you can tell he is turning the corner.

Can't wait to keep watching him in the future.

He really needs to work on his defense when he is picked. One on one he's okay but I saw numerous times where he was picked and his man got easy shot after easy shot. I'd also like to see the Sixers run an offense not this two passes one guy goes one on 5 and jacks up a shot crap that I saw so much of in this game.

Coming off bench, Turner stands tall
Rookie sparks game-sealing run

PHILADELPHIA -- Evan Turner and Andre Iguodala stayed after practice Saturday, playing several games of 1-on-1.

It was highly contested, and it was heated.

It must have helped.

Turner scored 17 points off the bench in the 76ers' 86-82 win over the Miami Heat. It was by far his best game of the series, mainly because Turner was on the court in the final minutes, when the game was on the line.

"During the game, we spoke, and [Iguodala] was like, 'We messed up this whole year. We could have gone 1-on-1 against each other every day.'

"Actually, I think it really got [me] in the rhythm offensively more than anything. I think that was a big factor."

That's because Turner was making shots from all over the court.

He started by making a 3-pointer late in the first quarter. He hit a turnaround jumper with nine minutes left in the second quarter to give the Sixers their biggest lead of the game at 16 points.

For the last month of the season, these minutes were few and far between as Turner had fallen out of the rotation.

But Iguodala had gotten into foul trouble, and Sixers coach Doug Collins desperately needed production from Turner, the rookie from Ohio State who was the second overall pick in the draft last summer.

Still, Collins had a decision to make in the fourth quarter, with no less than the Sixers' season on the line.

"When [Miami] came back small, do I come back with Thad [Young] or Evan?" Collins said. "Evan was playing really well, so I left him on the court. He did a wonderful job."

Turner's seasoning spicing up playoffs for Sixers

WHETHER THE question was asked of him at the beginning of the season, toward the middle or near the end, 76ers rookie Evan Turner would always start his response by lowering his head and shaking it from side to side a few times.

The question, or a variation of it, was: How has your rookie season gone for you?

Early in the season, Turner, and his coaches, struggled with finding the right position for the 6-7 Ohio State product. He prospered handling the ball, struggled playing off of it. He rebounded well at times, took the ball to the basket with strength and battled to find a shooting stroke.

Really, on the court, not much has changed with Turner's game. It's the mental aspect where he and his coaches have seen the growth.

Sunday, when the Sixers pulled out an 86-82 win over the Miami Heat to get to within three games to one in their best-of-seven series, Turner was as important as any of coach Doug Collins' players in securing the victory.

Turner scored 17 points, including a huge 10-foot runner down the stretch and the final two points of the game on free throws. While he was on the floor for much of the final quarter out of necessity due to Andre Iguodala's foul trouble, Turner's play made it impossible for his coach to take him out of the game.

Turner having major impact in playoff

PHILADELPHIA - Jrue Holiday's 3-pointer was a huge shot Sunday.

Holiday's 25-foot jumper moved the Sixers to within one point and set the stage for Lou Williams' game-winning 3-pointer in an 86-82 Game 4 victory over the Heat.

But Collins said Monday that rookie Evan Turner's 11-foot baseline runner was even bigger. It halted a stretch of eight consecutive missed field goal attempts, trimmed a six-point deficit to four and started the deciding 10-0 surge.

"I just put up a floater and it went in" was Turner's assessment after Monday's practice.

That Turner made an important contribution - he also converted a pair of clinching free throws to complete a 17-point, 6-rebound afternoon - added another chapter to the rookie's up-and-down rookie season.

Sixers coach Doug Collins went with Turner, rather than Thaddeus Young, from 3:22 remaining until he brought Young in for Williams on defense with 8.1 seconds to go. Turner also guarded LeBron James for significant stretches, thanks in part to Andre Iguodala's foul trouble.

"I just thought Evan was playing real well and so I had Evan on the floor," Collins said. "He did a wonderful job."

Yeah one thing I noticed about Collins is he doesn't seem to ride a hot hand and instead seems to rely on his starters getting it going. Even with the good first half even had in the game before he saw no time till the game was practically over in the 2nd half.

Im not a Collins fan. I've watched several 76's games this season and was left scratching my head. His offensive rotation seems to be based on some kind of dice game that he plays between quarters.

Im glad he gets them to play with energy and passion (that was much needed in Philly) but x's and o's don't seem to be a strong point of this team under his leadership.

Turner is playing GREAT right now.

ok, his stats aren't all that great, but he's doing everything right so far. 4 pts, but 8 rebounds and getting it done on both ends (guarding LeBron- who is sorta just 'coasting' it looks :roll1:)

got blocked and blew a layup there in the last 30 seconds that would have been huge. ET seems to be turning a corner though. He should be making some headlines come next season.

By the stat-line you wouldn;t know it but he may have had the best game f any Sixer tonight.

He also should have had about 30 assists but nobody on Philly could make a shot in the first half.

Really hope Evan gets a chance to play more point in his career because I don't like him nearly as much at the 2 or 3. He will never have a consistent jumper and I hate seeing him come off screens where a pure shooter would look to drain a shot.

Philly has a nice young core, but like most teams in the East, they're going to need to get some bigger guys underneath if they want to bring home a title.

eh....Elton Brand has regained his old form and gives them a great PF presnence. In fact, he basically owned Miami down low and is what helped the Sixers make the series even entertaining.

Spencer Hawes also played well at the 5 for most of the ssries. I think their issues down low aren't the concern of their overall core.

Jrue Holiday at PG is a good player but will never be an elite PG. As a front office guy he'd give me nightmares truthfully....he's been very good early on in his career, but he isn;t a championship PG. He doesn't like to drive, his 3 point shot is suspect...he's basically a 2 guard in a PG body. The Sixers don't have a great 2 guard. They start Jody Meeks who can shoot bit is very 1 dimentional. At the 3 they run Iggy who is a waste of space on offense unless it's an open break.

I don't know....if I'm a Philly fan I'm probably somewhat optimistic but overall this team needs some serious help if it ever wants to get past the first round.
