Future Buckeye?

Hello everyone! It's great to see the huge fans that tOSU has supporting them. My son has been overwhelmed at all of the kind posts. We live in Southern California, about 35 minutes east of Disneyland. Most of the HS football around here is D1, although we do have alot of divisions up and down the coast. I'm in my 22nd year coaching and my school placed 6 kids (Div. 1a, II, and III) in NCAA on schoolarship this season. We in fact have a huge tOSU fan that will be playing HB for us this season that will enroll at Ohio State on academic schoolarship (his lifelong dream was to go to tOSU) a year from now. He's a bit undersized for the NCAA or he'd walk on there. He'll be an All league RB though for us.

Anyhow, in our area there is a weight limit on kids to play youth football. For example, my boy playing in the video is 10 years old and is in 4th grade. Because of his size, He is playing on the video with the kids in 5th, 6th, 7th grade in the clips (ages 11,12, and 13). The kids have to weigh in once at the start of the season, then if they make weight they can play any position. Codi is a pretty special player and he's even learning to be a leader, which was a challenge always playing with older boys. As you can see though, he is more than holding his own so far. He usually plays FB and DT, although he has played some MLB. I'm glad you all are enjoying his clips....thanks again for all the kind words! I'll add a few more nice pancakes or runs on the clip from time to time!

BTW - I'm definately working on saving to send him to the Buckeye camp. I'll keep my eye on it! If anyone has links to the Buckeye camps, please put them here and I'll look it all over and try to get him there!

Kind of like last year when i (an eighth grader) started on a team filled with HS frosh and sophomores, and played against a few juniors, it is very hard to be a leader. Tell your son I said keep up the good work! it would be nice to play for Ohio State wit him as my teammate.

Damn, that's a big kid you got there, DOLFANMIKE!
I'm glad he's getting to carry the ball now, because he more than likely will grow out of that and into a lineman.
He already has the hardest thing there is to teach, and that is the "want to" to hit somebody and put them on their back. Cudos to you for playing him up to an appropriate level of competition.
Sure hope you and Codi can make it to a camp sooner rather than later!

Thank you! Our family Dr. thinks Codi is on track for 6'5 275 by the time he is a senior in HS...so if that is that case you'll be right on the OL assessment. Heck, he's already in a size 10 1/2 shoe. In fact, two seasons ago his team had lots of RB's and few OL so he played OT that year and played very well. For now though he offers so much blocking and running inside that FB is his primary spot.

Besides Football, I've had the opportunity to watch Codi play BB and he pretty much dominates the boards. Yeah, he's definitely not afraid of contact but he doesn't have a mean bone in his body either. He's a good natured, easy going kid off the field, but a beast on the field/court. He's also an unselfish player and so I'm sure he'll be happy whatever position he plays.

Being both a rabid Buckeye and Dolphins fan, I love the sig! Good luck to you and your son. We hope to see him in Columbus in the near future.

BTW there is a Dolphins thread in the professional football section. Feel free to drop in there and chat with us regarding the future of the 'Phins and #19.

I would love to see this guy play for Ohio State. He seems to be a good hitter and for his age he has some size, he has great potential. He could be a good offensive lineman if he gets 6'5 275. But, I was wandering if he likes offense or defense more? Because he seems like an agressive football player, and like ScarletBlood31 said, if he gets big but not as big as 6'5 275 he would be a good MLB for how agressive he is.

He loves Football and has always played wherever his coaches ask him. You'd never hear this kid say give me the ball, or let me be the star. He's plenty happy to be the guy springing the RB with the big block. He's started so far in his 4 years at FB, OT, DT, and MLB.
He really has an impressive maturity and football knowledge about him that stands out whenever he plays or goes to camps. That's in part because he's been hanging out with me when i'm coaching at the high School since he was in diapers. He's already seen more football games and practices than most high school kids. I agree if his size doesnt pan out he could be a fantastic MLB based on his reads, but he'll need to get fast to be a success there. Right now he's quick but he isn't fast.
