FS Bo 'Beaux' Pelini (DC LSU Tigers)

Heard this on the radio today. Not letting the sailor call a play because the game was closer than expected is one thing, but how he handled it when asked is embarrassing.

Bo is a great coach and I don't think he is a bad person, but he really needs learn to control his emotions a little better, in my IMO.

Nebraska's Pelini 'lives and learns' after flops
Published April 04, 2011
Associated Press

LINCOLN, Neb. ? If Nebraska coach Bo Pelini is stressed about his team's dismal finish last season, staff turnover and the challenges that await in the Big Ten, he isn't showing it.

"This is a tough profession, and you go through your ups and downs," Pelini said in an interview with The Associated Press. "It's part of the deal. I'm not content, but I do see steady progress in how we've gotten better in a lot of areas. I just want to get over the hump. It wasn't any harder than any other year."

Even if it seemed that way sometimes.

The 43-year-old Pelini is 29-12 in three seasons, and the Cornhuskers have been seen as a program on the rise most of that time.

But Nebraska lost three of its last four games last season and Nebraska's chancellor admonished Pelini for a sideline meltdown at Texas A&M. The offense flopped for the second year in a row in the Big 12 championship game and again in an embarrassing Holiday Bowl loss to Washington.

Pelini parted ways with offensive coordinator Shawn Watson in January ? he won't call it a firing ? and promoted running backs coach Tim Beck as part of a drawn-out staff overhaul.

"I've learned a lot, I've been through a lot," Pelini said. "You know as well as I do that it's not an easy place to coach. We haven't won a championship yet, but we've come a long ways in three years. I'm proud of that."

The schedule-makers did Nebraska no favors for its first season in the Big Ten: road games at Wisconsin and back-to-back at Penn State and Michigan, and home games against Ohio State, Michigan State and Iowa.

"I don't worry about who we're going to play," Pelini said. "I look at it as they have to worry about playing us."

Raise puts Bo Pelini among Big Ten's highest-paid coaches

NU coach Bo Pelini (AP file)
Big Ten's highest-paid coaches
Based on published media reports
Jim Tressel Ohio State $4.1 million
Kirk Ferentz Iowa $3.8 million
Bo Pelini Nebraska $2.775 million
Bret Bielema Wisconsin $2.5 million
Brady Hoke Michigan $2 million
Mark Dantonio Michigan St. $1.8 million

Bo Pelini heads into the Big Ten Conference with a revised contract that places him in the upper tier of the league's highest-paid football coaches.

Under terms of a deal that became effective March 1, the fourth-year Nebraska head coach's annual base salary increased to $2.775 million, a raise of $425,000 from his 2010 contract. Under the new five-year deal, Pelini's base salary will escalate $100,000 annually, reaching $3.175 million in 2015.

The length of Pelini's contract was extended one year, and his performance bonuses increased significantly. The new deal also more than doubles the amount NU would owe Pelini if he is fired.

Gone from Pelini's contract is a one-time retention bonus. Under terms of his old deal, Pelini had been set to earn a payment of $500,000 if still employed as Nebraska's head coach on Jan. 31, 2015.

Notes: Pelini sympathizes with Tressel

CHICAGO ? Nebraska coach Bo Pelini was a football captain at Ohio State and a three-time academic All-Big Ten pick there.

So what does he think about the negative vibes flowing out of his alma mater these days over OSU coach Jim Tressel lying about players violating NCAA rules?

?Honestly, I don't know enough about it to talk about it,'' Pelini said. ?You don't wish anybody to go through that. Jim's a good man.''

It shouldn't come as a surprise to see Osborne and now Pelini speak well of Tressel. Tressel was instrumental in recruiting Nebraska to the Big Ten. That trip he took to Lincoln to speak at the FCA dinner involved more than just the dinner. It's becoming clear that Tressel acted as an envoy helping develop the ties that eventually led to Nebraska joining the Big Ten.

Why Tressel? Because he's a good egg, and well-respected in these parts. His words carry a lot of weight, and I'm sure he was instrumental to gather Nebraska into the fold.

Here here. Folks here in Nebraska have nothing but respect for tOSU and your coach because of the love of tradition you guys have. We here also have a love of tradition when it comes to college football, and felt that the Big 8 changed that about 15 years ago when they decided to sell their soul to the Longhorns.

The Coaching Search: Bo Pelini
TheBuckeyeBattleCry.com

Ever since his meteoric rise in the college coaching ranks six years ago, Mark ?Bo? Pelini has been a well known name for the top spot in Ohio State football. Though he hasn't ever explicitly said so, having been raised in Youngstown, Ohio, and having graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School, Pelini has likely been a Buckeye fan for life.

Of course, it also helps that he played ball there.

Recruited by Earle Bruce, Pelini spent most of his days on the field as a free safety under John Cooper. He was a starter in his last two seasons (1989, 1990) and Co-Captain his senior year. Clearly the Scarlet and Gray runs deep in his blood.

After his playing career, Pelini jumped straight into the coaching circuit. He spent a year as a Graduate Assistant at Iowa, followed by another year as the Quarterbacks coach of his old High School.

He then jumped into the professional leagues, coaching DB's at San Francisco (94-96) for three years before coaching Linebackers for the Patriots (97-99) and Packers (00-02).

Since Pelini is also an Ohio State alum, we asked him about the controversy surrounding the Buckeyes and his friend and colleague, Jim Tressel.

"Obviously, I support Coach Tressel," stated Pelini. "I really can't speak on what happened. I have no idea what happened. I really can't say because I don't know what the whole situation is, but I do know this... he's a great man; a great coach. He's a tremendous man of integrity. Ohio State will look back and say he did an incredible job for the university."

Bo Pelini is an Urban Dictionary entry

Pelini - A violent rage that cannot be controlled, often expressed in Tourette's-like cursing accompanied with demonic facial contortions. An angry sense of entitlement that will cause you to treat anyone around you with contempt and physical brutality, including game officials, innocent cameramen or possibly your own team.
Yo--I said I wanted those eggs over medium, I'm about to go Pelini up in here!!!! @#$%$$%!!!!!!
