Fred Davis (official thread)

PFW
Trojans TE Fred Davis, who chose not run at the Combine, also did not impress at the pro day, clocking in the mid-4.7s.
"He's not very flexible," one evaluator said. "He's not a first-round talent by any stretch of the imagination. I was disappointed with his Combine and pro-day workout. (Rams and ex-USC TE) Dominique Byrd was much more flexible, much more athletic and had much better hands. His problem was that he was not committed to the game. (Davis) is not much different in that regard."

Redskins take Davis in second round at 48

By DONALD EMMONS
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

Fred Davis spent most of Saturday afternoon with approximately 50 family members and friends at a relative's large home in Monclova Township watching the NFL draft. The 6-foot-4, 248-pound tight end, who earned the John Mackey Award last season after leading the University of Southern California in receptions, rarely moved from his spot on the end of a couch as he watched the draft on ESPN. Nearly four hours elapsed before his cell phone rang with the Washington Redskins on the other end of the line informing him that they were going to select him in the second round with the 48th overall pick. The group surrounding Davis erupted into cheers once he indicated the Redskins' plans before it appeared on the scroll at the bottom of the ESPN draft broadcast. "It feels good," Davis said moments after finding out which team had drafted him. "The process is so long. I was sitting there and listening to all the predictions.

Brand new Redskin Davis tosses out first pitch

Fred Davis, donning a New York Yankees hat, was one of three ceremonial first-pitch tossers at Fifth Third Field yesterday. Hey Fred, given that it was the Washington Redskins who drafted you in the second round of the NFL draft on Saturday, shouldn't you at least be wearing a Washington Nationals baseball cap? "I've got some Nats hats," said a grinning Davis, one day after the Redskins made the Rogers graduate the 48th overall pick. Speaking of attire, Davis said the colors he's worn on past football uniforms foreshadowed his destination on draft day. The Redskins and the University of Southern California - where Davis starred at tight end - wear gold and either burgundy (Redskins) or cardinal (USC), and Davis said he once played for the "Redskins" as an 11-year old in a Toledo youth football league. "It's like I've been wearing those colors all my life," Davis said. Davis said he will be in Washington, D.C., today to meet with the media, and said the team's mini-camp begins Friday. He spent yesterday with his mom and aunt at the ballpark for the Mud Hens' 7-1 victory over the Indianapolis Indians. "I'm just taking it all in," Davis said. "After this, it's straight to business."

Redskins still trying to locate tight end Davis

Washington Redskins second-round draft pick Fred Davis did not show up for minicamp practice Sunday, prompting the team to send security officials to find the tight end.

"Everybody was scouring," coach Jim Zorn said after practice. "Nobody heard from him, so there was one of two scenarios. Either there was some real trouble and we needed to find him, or he screwed up. I haven't even got to talk to him yet. I know he has been found. I believe it is more in the 'I screwed up' category."

The team was expected to give more details on Davis' absence later Sunday. Davis was the 48th overall pick out of Southern California in last weekend's draft. He and the other rookies were staying in a local hotel during the three-day minicamp that ended Sunday.

ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins second-round draft pick Fred Davis did not show up for minicamp practice Sunday, having overslept on just his third day in the NFL.

This could have been prevented, but USC doesn't offer the independent study course on day-timers that TSUN has,

ESPN - Redskins' rookie apologizes for oversleeping, missing minicamp practice - NFL

Redskins' rookie apologizes for oversleeping, missing minicamp practice

ASHBURN, Va. -- Less than a month after being drafted, Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis stepped behind a podium Tuesday and performed a familiar professional sports ritual: the prearranged, contrite apology.

Davis apologized to owner Dan Snyder, coach Jim Zorn and his Redskins teammates for the "minor mistake" of missing a minicamp practice May 4. The second-round draft pick from Southern California said he overslept after switching hotel rooms the night before.

"It was something that was irresponsible of me, and I just now want to move on," Davis said.

NFL Tight End Accused of Assaulting Woman | TMZ.com

1/6/2011 11:45 AM PST by TMZ Staff

Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis has been accused of assaulting a woman in a D.C. area nightclub early this morning ... TMZ has learned.

According to law enforcement sources, Davis -- a 2nd round draft pick in 2008 -- was identified as a suspect in a police report filed early this morning ... after an alleged altercation between the NFL player and a female clubgoer.

The woman told police she was hanging out at Josephine nightclub -- when Davis approached her in an "aggressive" manner and grabbed her ... so she threw a drink on him.

A short time later, she claims, Davis retaliated by throwing a drink back on her -- and then striking her in the lip with an object. Sources at the club tell us the woman claimed she was hit with a champagne bottle.

Law enforcement sources tell us the club is equipped with surveillance cameras which captured the confrontation ... and cops will review the footage.

So far, no charges have been filed -- and we're told Davis is expected to speak with cops sometime today to give his side of the story.

Davis' people had no comment.

UPDATE: A Law enforcement official who reviewed the security tape tells us Davis appeared to be reaching for the woman in a calm manner when she threw the first drink in his face.

We're told Davis can be seen approaching the woman a short time later with a plastic bottle -- eventually pouring the contents on the woman and then throwing the bottle at her ... however the woman didn't appear injured.

The video then shows bystanders getting in between Davis and the woman -- and in the commotion, someone elbowed the woman in the mouth ... causing a cut inside of her upper lip.

Davis has since told NBCWashington.com that he threw "orange juice" on the woman.
