FOX likely to go off the air on Time Warner Cable Dec. 31

What about AT&T? Anyone have their U-Verse service?

I do. They have the best selection of channels, both regular and HD, out there, but the price is pretty high. They also have international channels that you don't find on cable, and used to have to get dish service for. If you are looking for good HD and want the most channels, it's the way to go.

Does anyone think that a dispute resulting in the loss of channels would be justifiable grounds for me to get out of my Time Warner contract?
Customer Service: Ooh yes Mr. Merih, we are happy to offer you a credit of $2.00 per month during this period when you are not receiving the Food Network - and we will give you a 3-month free trial of Showtime, HBO or All Bas Fishing All The Time!

(CSR then returns to eating his curried lentils and Nan).

WideOpenWest (WOW).

It's the easy answer. Believe me, it's a much better company than Time Warner.

Except the DVR sucks, Half the channels available in HD aren't there. The Set top box has outdated firmware.

I was getting ready to switch back to Time Warner till I heard about this a week ago.

As much as I dislike TW as a company, their HD selection is much better than WOWs, and since thats all I care about I cant bring myself to switch.

Yep.

Rocks.

I had it for 3 months and switched to TWC. The concept is there, but it's not ready yet, because AT&T puts too many restrictions on what you can do with your network. I loved the 4 room DVR, but not necessary for me. Like satellite, you have to have a box at every TV. Rental fees for boxes at four TVs, when I really only wanted digital cable at one, and basic cable at the other, non-HD TVs, was a lot more than I wanted to spend on extras that I didn't want/need. The cable boxes are run through the modem, but it doesn't add any cool features that you should get by having all of your devices interconnected, and if the modem locks up and needs reset...the whole sytem locks up and has to wait for the modem. The modem locked up at least twice a week. It was a lot more expensive than TWC digital cable, with a similar lineup. Also, similar to satellite prices. The internet speed was not what it was cracked up to be. Their standard speed is 6 Mbps (much slower than my TWC speed). If you want to go to 10 Mbps (still slower than my TWC speed), it costs quite a bit more, and 18 costs alot more.

Alot of people on here like(d) it. I had a bad experience with it, and the UPS store that I returned the equipment to, said that they were getting multiple equipment returns everyday. For as limited as their availability, I can't believe that that's a good thing to have that many returns.

It really depends on what your needs are. I only have 2 tvs, both HD, and I wanted the same lineup on both. I agree the internet speed needs work, but I am ok, with just the basic speed. Plus, I needed the international channels, so my wife can watch the filipino channels. You can't get those on the cable here, only U-Verse and The dish companies.

Hmm. No problems with my DVR (standard Scientific Atlanta model, bulletproof), but I don't have HD, so that may have something to do with it. My primary considerations were Internet speed and phone (2 lines), and my connect speed is really fast. WOW customer service is top-drawer, too.

What does "outdated firmware" mean to the user?

I haven't had this issue, but it sounds like it's time for Viagra.

This may not be the case for you, but AT&T came knocking on my door after they installed their service in my subdivision and I brought this up to the guy. He explained that because Time Warner and AT&T both buried their cables, they were subject to federal regulations the prevented them from keeping users under contract. After looking through Time Warner's website to verify, he was correct. I called Time Warner and they shut my service off. I did get charged a pro-rated fee for that month's service, but there was no termination fee.

I do like the ATT better than the Time Warner. I'm paying $15 more a month now, but I've added 200 channels and the internet is about the same. I have had problems with one of my remotes never wanting to work, but this might just be a faulty remote...

What I meant by a sucky DVR wasn't the box itself. I'm sure 95% of my DVR problems are attributed to the firmware. Things I set to record don't get recorded, the playback can end up garbled at times, etc.

Firmware is the software that's used to operated the Cable box. Time Warner and WOW both use the same type of cable box. However, Time Warner's software is 4 or 5 versions higher than WOW's. Because of this, the menu is smoother, the DVR was flawless (at least compared to what I have now), the responses were better, and there were a lot more features to use.

I like watching football on rainy days though. I've seen too many unable to acquire signal messages on TV's to warrant me ever switching to DirectTV (can't vouch for other satellite companies)
