FOX BCS Coverage...Thoughts?

For various reasons I didn't hear any of the announcing until there were 3 minutes left in the game (Fiesta). The only thing I noticed about the crew was that the play-by-play guy incessantly blathered about Oklahoma's need to hurry up. The truth is, 2 and a half minutes is a very long time in college football, with the stopping of the clock until the ball is set after every made first down. He kept at it until they were down to the 15 with a minute and a half left. Then he said it one last time, and then immediately backtracked. It was painfully obvious that someone, the director probably, had just yelled into his earpiece that 90 seconds is a long time when you're 45 feet from the end zone.

Did I miss a football game broadcast where Musburger burned a Brutus doll in effigy while singing Hail to the Victors? Why is Musburger an asshole?

I agree. Never understood the hatred. People didn't hate him during the "Holy Buckeye" call.

He hypes up the underdog which OSU rarely is so they take that as a hatred towards OSU.

I don't know if this is more a local affiliate problem, of Fox's but typically, the audio is out of sync with the video by like a quarter of a second or so. Just enough to annoy you when you see the guy's lips moving but not in tune with the words that you're hearing. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it WRGT in Dayton's problem?

Actually Musburger is one of my favorites! He always has great energy and enthusiam that engages me for big games. I felt like the Fox games thus far were quite boring. It may sound lame, but I got used to the dramatic music, hype and charisma that the Musburger/Herbie/Davie crew provides.

Musburger is not anti OSU, he is just balanced, and that irritates those that only see through scarlet colored glasses.

I'm not sure how much I liked them, but I have to give them credit for how they knew BSU would go for 2 after scoring the TD in OT. Maybe they saw the BSU coach with 2 fingers up in the air, but still, they called it quick. Most annoucers you hear on TV even in obvious situations act like dumbasses not knowing if they are going for 1 or 2.

Because fans are ignorant. I have no doubt that if OSU was playing let's say Indiana for the Big 10 title, Musberger would root for INdiana. He just likes a great story. He likes suspense. It was obvious that he was rooting for us in 2002, just like I'm sure he was rooting for scUM this year to set up the undefeated clash in the shoe. He's not an OSU fan - he's a college football fan. And sometimes that means you root for the underdog.

Disagree completely. Musberger is more of a front-runner most of the time (for all CFB games... especially if "John... David... Booty" is the quarterback :p).

I mostly agree and he was definitely pulling for OSU throughout the second half of the '02 season (and I remember many Buckeye fans loving his play-by-play and commentary)... I would venture to say that he favors the Big10 a tad more than other conferences, mainly because he graduated from Northwestern. I don't mind Musburger one bit.

He wasn't too bad during last night's basketball game either... I got a good chuckle when he called the OSU basketball fans the "wine and cheese" crowd (and mentioned how they were much better during that game than last year).

I was wondering last night if the Indiana message boards would be abuzz today with people complaining that Musburger is a big Ohio State homer after wearing a Scarlet & Gray pin striped tie last night. :roll1:

You'd have to be oblivious in the face of Musburger's half dozen Vlade Janakievski name drops per broadcast that even though he received his degree from Northwestern, he's a Buckeye through and through.

Remember when he and Dick Vermeil used to do games (Man I miss Vermeil in the booth) but everytime they came to Columbus, they would drive down to this psychic in Waverly, Ohio to predict the outcome for the game they were about to announce?

They loop the whole thing through a fair and balanced desynchronizer. Buried in the bowels of WPAFB it was originally deployed as a combined NSA / Pentagon Anti-Terrorist media monitoring program.

Obviously Brent's not doing that anymore, since he now just takes the limo over to Vlade's cafe to pick up his sammich and six pack. See ... OSU takes care of Brent so he doesn't have to drink, drive, and park his own rental, like those jokers at Nebraska make him do. :p

I downloaded the torrent of the 1995 Illinois game; Brent and Vermeil called that game. I had forgotten what a good analyst Vermeil was. You walked away from one of the broadcast he did and you learned something about football that you didn't know before. He broke down plays and explained things as well as anyone ever has.

He was the anti-Theismann.
