Former WVU Head Coach Bill Stewart (RIP)

The way his players gave him props and responded to him last night, I think this is a great decision by West Virginia. He needs to work on getting them to play with more discipline, but that's not tough, giving away 30 yards in penalties every quarter against a team that isn't going to choke would be bad though. Overall, congrats Mountaineers.

On a side note, dude has some dumbo sized ears going there.

No, I can just form my opinion that these players were motivated to prove that they don't need Dick Rod. During the circus that is their coaching search, I don't think I heard this guy's name one time. Now he's got the job based on one game? Good luck to him.

.....just like others can form their own that the coach might have had something to do with it. That was all I was saying.

I think when Pat White spoke for all of the players, it didn't leave WVU with much of a choice. Guys been around since 2000 and has said he won't politic for the job, and it's his school, his state, his team.

Heard this on ESPN Radio from WVU booster Ken Kendrick

"He is so overmatched it's not even funny," said Kendrick, managing partner of baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks. "He's a nice guy and a father figure. But they had a wonderful architect and they hired the painter to build the next house. I want Bill Stewart to win and I want our program to be successful. But I feel bad for our future. I'm very concerned."

I couldn't be happier for the guy. If Pat White stays and keeps healthy next year, which I'm pretty sure he will, this WVU team has to be considered a contender for next year. Devine is going to be a very good back, and White's arm has gotten noticeably better. Keep your eyes out for these guys next year, IF there D is solid.

Well, WVU needs this guy to be able to recruit. That is the biggest key. If he cannot recruit, they are done.

He has proven to be a master motivator, and WVU fans on message boards were impressed by his play calling (When compared against RR).

He seems to have class, and that is something WVU needs. Overall, I am impressed by the move. The guy deserves it.

If he continues to go out and get guys that fit the WVU spread, then they should be able to dominate the Big East, and then beat on a sleeping Big 12 or a mediocre ACC team every year in a BCS bowl.

I'm impressed that the WVU Athletic Department learned from Nebraska's mistakes, and hired the guy who won their bowl game as an interim coach immediately, as opposed to 5 years later.

Saves them a pile of money too. If he does not work out, then he is cheap to buy off. If he works, out, more the better.

I heard 5 years at $800,000 per. Which works out to the same amount that R-Rod owes them for his buyout.

So basically, they get a free head coach for 5 years.

West Virginia?s incredibly bizarre decision to promote interim coach Bill Stewart to head coach based solely on Wednesday night?s Fiesta Bowl rout of Oklahoma. It?s a fitting and, most likely, disastrous end to what had already been one of the most dim-witted coaching searches I?ve ever witnessed.

Maybe Stewart will turn out to be the next Bill Belichick, but I?d guess he has a much better chance of becoming the next Bill Doba. Promoting an interim coach based on short-term success (Bobby Williams at Michigan State), or promoting an assistant just because he?s popular with the current players (Larry Coker at Miami), doesn?t usually work out in the long run. With Pat White and Noel Devine, it would be hard for any coach to screw up next year?s team, but two to three years down the road, the school will likely rue its hasty decision.

One of the most positive coaches I've seen.

After Pat misthrew a ball to end the drive, Stewart just came over with a big smile and listened to what Pat had to say and gave a few words of advice and patted him on the helmet. All smiling.

Never seen a guy more happy to be there, and I think that's a great thing.
