Former DC Kerry Coombs (Cincy Bearcats Interim Head Coach)

Yeap. The Peter Principle strikes again.
I’m not sure this is a Peter Principle issue as much as desperation maneuver… He got caught with Hafely leaving and didn’t have his list and went with what he knew but had to dangle the DC position to get him

5 yards per carry is good for a first down all game long.

Edit:
Hell, the way the game was played yesterday, 3 yards per carry would have been good for a first down all day.

Day pretty much said he started passing more because he knew he couldn’t count on the defense to get a stop. I think they could’ve done more in the run game, but it was similar to when OSU played Bama in 2014. Despite the score, one team was in control the whole way.

Gotta try to get points.

I'm just speaking strictly of Coombs as a candidate. Not Day's situation.
Good DB coach, known quality.
Not a good DC, and this isn't the place to do OJT imo.

This happens a ton all over the sporting landscape. Saban's ability to either not get sucked into one, or be able to mitigate a bad hire behind the scenes... may be the #1 cause for Bama's continued success.

Coordinators are by far the #1 thing holding Ohio State back over the past decade. Bad DC situation in ‘13 equals bowl game embarrassment.

Ash at DC and Herman at OC equals title run in ‘14.

The Warinner/Beck combo cost us a title with one of the most talented teams ever in ‘15 and led to the bowl game embarrassment in ‘16.

Schiano’s crap defense led to missing the playoffs from Purdue/Iowa clunkers in ‘17 and ‘18.

We had the golden combo of coordinators in ‘19 with Hafley and Day/Wilson but got screwed by the refs.

And now the Coombs defense is fucking us. If Ohio State can manage to secure two competent coordinators at the same time we’re golden. Sadly, I’d argue ‘14 and ‘19 are the only two times we’ve managed that in the last decade.

Last post about it....the thing is, these number should *HOPEFULLY* improve over the next two weeks....and it may be a charade...

Welp, that's absolutely unacceptable and somehow worse than I even imagined. For anyone who says fans are panicking or overreacting at how bad the defense has preformed, read those stats and try to tell me why fans shouldn't want Coombs at least demoted.
