Formal Education: Societal Indoctrination or Liberation?

I fail to see how reading, writing, math, and science is "indoctrination is at its worst". The only basic subject taught up through middle school which could be construed as indoctrination would be history/social studies, where facts are most easily manipulated.

Mili, I want you to write me a 3 page theme on "why its okay to be Gay"

Be sure to indent your paragraphs.

Really exciting news for the people of LA.

City Council voted and approved the creation of up to 250 privitized charter schools. Naturally - the teachers unions are furious (not because the care about your children, they want the federal money and this thins their ranks).

Interesting that Villarigosa got behind this - he's a died in the wool lefty.

Vote could open 250 L.A. schools to outside operators -- latimes.com

Which is why my classmates and I were constantly hit up with Environmentalist BS all though Middle School and High School....

My daughter excels in science so its a good thing, but she was chastised in first grade for supporting Bush.

Late to the game here, but this may be area specific. During the Bush/Gore battle, all the kids in my daughter's school were supporting Bush based on their parents republican bent teachings. These things can be twisted in many ways similar to what you said about the kids learning that McCain would die in office.

My daughter is now experiencing her first year in college and learning how to manage her time, decide what is important e.g. go to class or got yo a sorority rush information session, get along with her roommate who she had never met...

Learning is a lifelong process and you will be introduced to new thoughts and ideas way beyond school...the question is what is your openess to listen, understand, comprehend, consider what is being presented to you and what is your capacity to decide on your own and not be a lemming...

I have known people who had perfect SAT and ACT scores along with fantastic grades, their common sense and ability to function in the real world was non existent. Unlike my parents I have not pushed my daughter on her grades (why don't you get A's) but on learning and being able to survive and function in the world.....

Is it wrong to be a good Christian steward of your house? Even if you can't see value in that maybe you should do it for your daughter.

Is it ok if I come to your kids school and preach the benfits of using the front seat floor of my pickup truck as a receptacle for empty beer cans?

I'm for separation of church and State like our founding fathers/Constitution put forth.

What is wrong with stewardship(from the Chrisitan perspective) of the planet?

Lovely dodges.

There are many opinions on what constitutes proper "stewardship". What BM was referring to was how one particular opinion can be forced upon our children due to political (or popular, or union) interference.

Sorry but the poor jab at the "Christian" perspective has little effect on me as I don't follow that mythological tradition.
