Ell Roberson 2003 final stats
4.3 ypc
143.19 passer eff rating
51.7 completion %
2545 yds
24 TD/12 INT

Vince Young 2004 final stats
6.5 ypc
128.37 p.e.r
59.2% completion
1849 yds
12 TD/11 INT

So Young's a better runner but Roberson was clearly the better passer

Roberson also had a much better running game (Sproles) to support him in 2003 than VY will have in 2005.

We all remember how the meeting with Roberson and Sproles turned out.

I've been confident we will handle yet another overrated, soft B12 team all off season, just sharing some concrete examples as to why.

The '03 Kansas St. wasn't a terribly good team that year. They played the game of their lives to win the Big 12 Championship game, but they stil had 4 or 5 losses that year including one to the '03 Longhorns. They were similar to the '01 Colorado Buffaloes that went on to the BCS aftetr beating Nebraska on the last game of the regular season and then beating us in the Big 12 Championship. We actually beat the Buffaloes 40-7 earlier in the year, but due to the fact that we have a conference championship game we had to play them again with not so spectacular results.

They managed to beat OU and win the B12...when the last time UT fans could say that?

You beat them at home then had to play them again and got whipped same as the only other time Mack Brown has beaten a Top 10 team during his stay in Austin.

I posted that to show how similar the 2 QB's were, not 2 teams in 2 different years.

We play in a league where we have to actually play in a championship game to win the conference(novel idea). Not in one where a team (Purdue) can potentially win the league without playing 2 of the top 3 teams in the conference.

What are you talking about the final score of that game was 39-37. I wouldn't exactly say we got whipped as we had 4 turnovers that game and were on the way to blowng them out before Chris Simms' meltdown.
As far as that being Mack Brown's only top 10 win, you sir are an idot. In 1998 Mack Brown Longhorns ended the (defending national champion at the time) Nebraska Cornhuskers 70 game home winning streak of a team that was top 5 and had just come off of winning 3 of the 4 previous National Championships. If you think this is Mack Brown's biggest game then you are sadly mistaken.

Even if this isn't a board where we engage in name-calling, uh, er, seems a little rough to call someone an "idot"? :shake:

This is Mack Brown's best chance to win a national championship. Let's see if this doesn't become his biggest game ever! Or, at least, the one he remembers most.

Answer to rhetorical question - never.

The last time Texas won a conference championship in the same season they defeated Oklahoma was 1994, when an 8-4 Texas team was co-champion of the old Southwest conference. Their last outright conference championship that came the same year as a victory in the RRS was in 1990.

They had three losses in the regular season, including a 24-20 loss at Texas, which is hardly someting to sneeze at seeing as you were 10-2 during the regular season that year. Their three losses were in a row, in the first half of their season, and were by 7, 4, and 4 points respectively. They then went on to stomp mud-holes in six of their next seven opponents (including the title game against Oklahoma). At the end of that season, KSU was on as much a roll as another other team in the country. And we tore them a new ass in the Fiesta Bowl.

Mack Brown vs teams that finished the year ranked in the AP Top 10 since 1998: 2-13.....go look it up. If you want to crow about that particular mark and still call other people idiots well then...I guess you'd fit the bill as a typical arrogant Texas fan.

come on now... freaking ARIZONA beat Nebraska that year... now, i will admit, that was probably the Wildcats' best team ever, but considering how bad they traditionally are, that ain't saying much...

BTW, WTF is an 'idot' ???

When the bucks played K-state, Ell Roberson played terrible. Whether that had to do with the defense pressuring him or the rape allegations, I don't know. I think it was a combination of both. Not only did he miss on numerous occasions, his receivers dropped very catchable balls. (Texas is not real strong at wide out either.)

I really did not see much of Ell Roberson, or Vince Young, to make any comparisons. Vince Young more than likely will play better than Ell played against the bucks. I have to imagine Roberson played one of his worst games in the Fiesta Bowl.

The thing that I was impressed with the most, was how Ohio State shut down Sproles. He was almost a Heisman finalist and he was unable to do anything.

Every time we play a team with a Heisman canidate all we hear from their fans is how fast/unstoppable that player is and how slow and unathletic we are. well you know what, so far since 2001 only one guy has even come close to living up to his hype against us..Philip Rivers and he still lost the game.

No one is going to come into the 'shoe at night and beat us with a running QB that is average at best when throwing, a well known choke artist for a coach and questions in the kicking game.

catdaddyhorn, You aren't about to rip on the Big 10, right? Is there a softer conference than the Big XII right now? So you play a conference championship game (Oh, unless you are TEXAS, that is). Please. Go back and watch your Longhorns last season against a WEAK Oklahoma team. You think that Mack Brown was puckered for that game? He hasn't slept all summer thinking about what could happen if Texas loses this game. Big Game Mack is getting ready to tighten things up come Saturday night.

I don't see why you guys are arguing with him, everyone knows the big ten is slow and fat. That southern speed will kill us all day long, just like it did against Miami, K State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State. We cant stand up to those southern recruits.
