Clemson used Ray as a good PR campaign, so it doesn't look like they gave him the things they did out of a purely humanitarian gesture.

Taos, I'm surprised you are one of the lemmings you usually ridicule when they follow the media with such blinders.
How could they use Ray as a PR campaign when the situation happened behind the scenes until it became apparent that the NCAA had to be consulted due to the aid he was receiving? What did Clemson actually get out of this? The kid himself got the PR and the huge trust fund. What did Clemson get? The donations came from everywhere...just not Clemson boosters.
If anything, the humanitarian aspect of this situation kept Ray on the team longer than the typical student-athlete. He has made out much better than 99% of the kids who ever receive a scholarship...
