The Turkish government is asking that the country be called by its Turkish name, a change which the United Nations has now adopted.

They don't get to tell us how our language works.

I'm pretty sure they're not saying "United States of America" with the correct accenting in Turkish.

Either way, their Turkiye is cooked.

Isn’t it the same thing as updating the spelling/pronunciation of Beijing and Mumbai?

Britannia may have ruled the waves, but they sucked at phonetics.

Now we rule the waves and suck at phonetics. I'm pretty sure that Bombay isn't far off the Hindi version, lots of languages in India. And romanizing words can be tricky. Just ask good old Nippon.
