Yep, it's one of my fondest memories, that John Cooper national championship, probably one of his as well! I really wish I had a copy of this, just so I could soak in his championship philosophy. How to win the big games and all that! Boy, those were the days!

I am amazed that this is selling through a discounter already!

Why don't we celebrate Cooper's national championship more often on BP?

The man can't catch a break on this site... so flame me... he lost two National Championships on freak plays, Shawn Springs slips on a slant pass and the Michigan receiver takes it to the house, a year later a shanked Michigan State punt bounces off the back of a blocker and the game goes south. In both instances teams with the same record as the Buckeyes, but with losses earlier in the season, got to go to big dance and the Buckeyes had to settle for the sock hop. The same thing could have happened twice, maybe three times to the NC team (Cinci, Purdue, Illinois). The ball does take funny bounces and anyone who says that luck isn't some small part of an NC is denying the obvious.

His losses to Michigan and the team's behavior against South Carolina left me ready to say good by, but I will ALWAYS remember that his 95 and 96 squads put the wood to Notre Dame. I see those two OOC games dead even with the Texas Game(s).

The 1998 game against Michigan State is a game i can never forget. I truely thought we were finally going to win an N/C for this guy. Looking back he did have great talent, a quarterback who i thought would blossom into one of Ohio states best but Lady Luck just didn't seem to be in Coop's corner. She was up in the state of Michigan.
Then comes Tressel to seemingly have all the answers in regards to beating the teams up north. And the ironic part of this is that the QB who lead us to our National Championship was from the state of Michigan.

With all that we have benn saying about the talent of this 2005 OSU team, it does not appear to matter now. We seem to be questioning the leadership of of Troy Smith and Zwick. I can remember when alot us here in B/P were comparing Troy Smith to Micheal Vick I wonder where that mode of thinking has gone. With teams double and triple teaming Ted Ginn, the offense has to have some idea how to get it down field, North and South.

I just wonder how John Cooper is looking at the teams of Ohio State under Jim Tressels leadership. I just hope that Troy Smith and Justin Qwick can pick up the leadership role and get The Ohio State University back on the right track. It seems like a huge monkey is growing on the back of Jim Tressel. And somebody has to help get this little critter off before it becomes any bigger.

[sarcasm=osugrad21] Well, he didn't win a NC...but at least his teams had offense and threw the ball deep!! [/sarcasm]

Know what's sad? Even with all the shitty bowl performances and scUM performances........had he not lost to scUM st. in 98, I wouldnt have minded near as much. But blowing that game, (with what I still think was the best Buckeye team ever), makes me hate that bastard. I still dry heeve when I think about that game.
