Florida's current woes explained

I don't know--I think UF's season is more a product of losing a ton of talent to the NFL than it is losing a ton of assistants. Much like OSU in '04 after it set the record for most players drafted in the NFL draft the previous spring.

Former defensive coordinator Charlie Strong left following the 2009 season for the Louisville job.

As an annual opponent of Florida, I'll admit right now that the above sentence is critical.

If Mark Richt were fired today - I'd want one name on the list of candidates and it's Charlie Strong.

We have become victims of Meyer's success. Defensive line coach Dan McCarney accepted a head coaching job at North Texas. That makes him the eighth assistant under Meyer to move from an assistant to a head coaching position. Former defensive coordinator Charlie Strong left following the 2009 season for the Louisville job. Dan Mullen (offensive coordinator) left for Missy State. Doc Holliday went to Marshall. Former staffers Kyle Whittingham (Utah), Greg Brandon (Bowling Green), Mike Sanford (UNLV) and Tim Beckman (Toledo) all took head coaching jobs after serving as assistants under Meyer.

McCarney's leaving now marks the seventh Florida assistant to leave the program in the past three years. Simply put, our coaching staffs have become less cohesive and effective over time. There is a great benefit to a stable coaching staff.

An alternate theory is that we just sucked this year and Urban was too pig headed to ditch Brantley and go with a spread QB like Reed.

Gator,

Its not all bad.... You could have lost no assistants and ended up 5-7, last in the Big (Texas) 12 (10).... Living here I've been able to watch what happens with an OC, who's made a living off of a Spread style goes to a Pro-style... atleast when Florida was headed south Urban and crew were able to made changes to somewhat right the ship.... at Texas... the ship kept sinking, and just got worse ...

Losing Charlie Strong hurts too

Or this guy is gone...

I know Urban has had some productive offenses in his time and some stellar defenses. I remember the 2006 Florida offense was kind of a cluster-faaa up until they played OSU and OSU let NFL-bust-whateverhisnameis do what he did best and throw short to intermediate passes.

Well, enough of a cluster[censored] to win the SEC anyway.

You guys were wary of our "Big-Play" offense, apparently. It was true that we had a bucket of drive killing motion/illegal formation/substitution penalties all year, but we did have a number of big scoring plays. Why you kept the five yards off cover nonsense after the half I'll never know.

Luckily, I was 23 or 24 Guinesses in by then, so I have no fucking idea what you're talking about...

And my motto has always been, "If I don't remember it, it didn't happen"...

Girls I'm romantically involved with always seem to mumble this in the morning on their way out the door.

It's like a minute and a half of good lovin' and splitting a warm Natti lite isn't enough any more...

It was like being stabbed to death with a penknife. :pissed:

Losing assistant coaches... sounds like the same problem Bobby Bowden had.

You mean Leake was known to make a poor decision or ten in his career when pressured?

You wait this long to tell us this?

Bastard.
