Florida State Seminoles (official thread)

FSU's fires both coordinators amid 1-9 season

Florida State fired three assistants Sunday, including two coordinators, as the Seminoles continue their historic slide.

Florida State dismissed offensive coordinator Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans a day after a 52-3 loss at Notre Dame.

"I appreciate the work these three men have provided over the last five years with me at Florida State," FSU coach Mike Norvell said in a statement. "They are all great men with families who also have poured into our program. We had many great moments together here, and I have never doubted their passion for our players and for Florida State.

"Unfortunately, we have not upheld the Florida State standard with our results on the field this season. I did not make any of these decisions lightly, but I felt changes needed to be made to elevate our program back to where we all desire it to be."

The housecleaning is under way at Florida State, where coach Mike Norvell fired offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and receivers coach Ron Dugans on Sunday.

The dismissals came a day after the Seminoles lost their sixth straight game, 52-3 at Notre Dame. It was FSU's third straight loss by 20 points or more.

With a 1-9 record, Florida State is on pace for its worst season since finishing 1-10 in 1974, two years before legendary coach Bobby Bowden took over the program.

Just sayin': I'm guessing Norvell's buyout prevents Free Shoes from firing him; so he is forced to make some changes. The 2 coordinators became the "scapegoats".

Just a year ago, the Seminoles were unbeaten and Norvell and his staff were being lauded for getting a program with national championship pedigree back to an elite level.

Going from 13-0 in 2023 to 1-10 in 2024 may be due to much more than just the 3 coaches. I'll also guess that Free Shoes will try to "right the ship" by hitting the transfer portal hard after the season.

QB Tramell Jones 6th to decommit from Florida State's 2025 class

Four-star Florida State quarterback pledge Tramell Jones pulled his commitment from the Seminoles on Thursday morning, marking the sixth departure from Mike Norvell's 2025 class amid the program's 1-9 start this fall.

Jones, a 6-foot, 190-pound passer from Jacksonville, Florida, is ESPN's ninth-ranked dual-threat quarterback prospect in the 2025 cycle. The decommitment by Jones, the longest-tenured member of Florida State's 2025 class, arrives just days after Norvell fired three members of his coaching staff Sunday following the program's 52-3 defeat at Notre Dame, headlined by the exit of offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins.

Jones' move represents the latest blow to a Seminoles class that has taken a series of hits this fall as Florida State has followed its 13-1 showing in 2023 with a disastrous 2024 campaign. A previous linchpin in the program's 2025 class, Jones follows ESPN 300 prospects Myron Charles, Javion Hilson, Malik Clark, Daylan McCutcheon and CJ Wiley among the top recruits who have left Norvell's incoming class since the Seminoles' Aug. 24 season opener. Jones' exit leaves Florida State with 12 prospects left committed in 2025, including five ESPN 300 pledges led by five-star offensive tackle Solomon Thomas, ESPN's No. 13 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle.

Florida State sat at No. 37 in ESPN's class rankings in 2025 before Jones' decommitment Thursday, with further movement expected out of the Seminoles' class in the coming weeks.
