Florida Gators (official thread)

OSU beat writers think Hartline to Florida.

Just sayin': Florida should be looking for someone with head coaching experience and a proven ability to build up a program. Is there a Steve Spurrier 2.0 out there?

Actually after striking out with the last 4 head coaches Florida should look for a Jim Tressel 2.0, head coach who won championships at a lower level school and will take the Florida job without even asking how much money they are offering. You wouldn't have to give that guy anything close to a guaranteed 8 year $80M contract, and if he bombs out and you fire him without cause, you wouldn't be on the hook for massive millions, etc.

It’s probably Lane.
I think he very much understands NIL and the culture of Florida is to score score score.
I think he’ll get it right there and get them into the playoffs.

However, I believe what he wants is the LSU job and that may come available.
Auburn might take a crack at Lane too, but both UF and LSU are more desirable destinations than Auburn.

I think it's time to come to grips with the idea he's going somewhere, soon.

Too many jobs open.

Probably, but I'm not so sure. Besides all the Ohio State ties and having three kids, it's probably tough for a good program to take a shot on him right now given the Peter Principle risk, and I don't know that he has a lot of reason to take a low-level head job. OSU points per game were significant lower in 2023 and are significantly lower this year than in all of Day's prior years and a bit lower than last year. While I think that tempo control and better defense/complementary football is a big part of that, I'm not sure other programs are smart enough to see that.

That said, if he wants to succeed Day here, which I would think he would, he'll have to go at some point. How soon might depend on what the OSU offense does and how far they go the rest of this season.

I hope not and I agree on the reasons he might not but the volume of open jobs is what gets me.

Someone is going to get desperate and make him an offer he can't refuse.
