Florida Gators (official thread)

Florida's penalties include the following:
  • The university was prohibited from recruiting players from the Seattle-area high school from 2019-21.
I wonder who the Seattle-area recruit was?

Just sayin': Not being able to recruit players from Seattle in 2019 and 2020 is one hell of a tough punishment.

New SEC policy on bowl game losses. The Cotton Bowl loss doesn't even count as a game played 'cause the entire 2020 Gator team didn't play:

Florida's Dan Mullen says depleted Gators could've opted not to play in Cotton Bowl

"With the number of people that were out for the game, we were under numbers actually," Mullen said. "We had the numbers to not play the game.

"I kind of viewed -- I don't know, maybe this is wrong -- that wasn't the 2020 football team that you saw," Mullen said of the Gators, who finished 8-4 after dropping their final three games. "There were 25 guys missing off the 2020 football team out there tonight. That was kind of a kick-start for us for the future, an opportunity for the young guys to play."

Mullen added: "The last game the 2020 team played was 11 days ago [in the SEC championship]."

I'm sure if the Gators had won, they wouldn't have counted the win either.....:slappy:

With that logic, given the number of players out for the MSU game, does that mean the Buckeyes only played five games this year and therefore really really don’t deserve to be in the CFP? Asking for a friend (Dabo)

I don't think so. I think what he's saying is that technically, Mullen COULD have pulled a Harbaugh and chosen not to play that game. Because he elected to forge ahead and play means that - in his mind - he deserves a lot of credit and that he is a huge asset to the world of college football and we should all be kissing his ass to thank him for blessing us with his gift of Florida football. Additionally, the fact that they lost the game should absolutely not be held against them. In fact, I expect a lot of the ESPN-types will now dedicate hours of broadcast time during today's games discussing whether Oklahoma should have actually been in the CFP instead of tOSU. Its a fairly common technique and will likely earn Florida a spot in the top 10 in the final polls, even though their record is a very pedestrian 8-4. Jimbo will likely use a very similar tactic when Texas A&M loses to North Carolina.

The main players that opted out were on offense yet the missing players will still be the excuse that everyone believes.

The Jack Ass that made that comment about FL being a better team plays on defense and he made........1 tackle. That FL defense gave up 400+yards rushing which means they were getting pushed around all night. They gave up 55 points because they just rolled over and quit like a bunch of pussies.

FL with 3 losses didn’t deserve to be in that game and they didn’t even want it which was evident.

9-0 Cincinnati deserves to be there and would never have quit like that. No way a Cincy defense rolls over like that.

FL got in because they were the benefit of SEC bias. They were the SEC East champ so even though they had 3 losses they MUST be a good team. What a joke.

And Dan Mullen may be the most arrogant, and entitled coach in recent memory.....his quotes from the press conference....What an asshole.

Congrats to Coach Mullen on his undefeated* season.

A&M - didn’t count. Not fair that they had fans in the stands. Needs 90k in the Swamp for home games.

LSU - not fair because LSU should have just cancelled game like OSU’s opponents did.

Bama - I’m sure he had a reason that this loss didn’t count. Still played more games than the Buckeyes.

OU - not “2020 Florida”.

Bama losses count as wins.

I see no reason they should ranked any lower than #6.

Say what you want about Harbaugh, but at least he had the decency to quit before The Game, not during it.
