Florida Gators (official thread)

The Florida vacancy is going to lift a lot of boats around the country, as coaches use it for leverage in their current jobs. Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze fits the profile of what Florida seems to be looking for, but the Rebels are trying to get ahead of that inquiry. AD Ross Bjork said on Monday that Ole Miss expects to have another contract extension done with Freeze by the end of the season, likely pushing his annual salary to around $4 million. Freeze has gotten his deal extended in each of his first two seasons with the Rebs.

Amazing how coaches benefit by getting a new contract (i.e. more money) when they are perceived as being a candidate for another job.

It's called getting a raise for being good at your job.

Jim McElwain to coach Florida

The coach, who will be introduced at a news conference Saturday, will be paid an average of $3.5 million per season over a six-year contract, according to sources.

To settle the dispute over McElwain's $7.5 million buyout, Florida agreed to pay $3 million over six years to Colorado State and also agreed to a future game -- with a $2 million guarantee -- in Gainesville sometime between the 2017 and 2020 seasons, sources told ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

In addition, McElwain has agreed to pay $2 million to Colorado State over time, sources told McMurphy.

I can't think of any examples off the top of my head this instant, but I know I've seen this kind of deal between Mid Majors and BCS/P5 schools on other occasions.
Pretty common place to use scheduling and payout visits as a form of compensation between schools in the NCAA.
