I have no problem with the punishment.

Of course you don't--you're a UF fan and the punishment is ridiculously lenient, according to every bit of commentary I've seen.

I don't understand why you have a problem with, what you term, is Spikes being "singled out." Are you suggesting that we all just forget about his actions because Tebow was the recipient of a late hit and Spikes' helmet was ripped off earlier in the game? Or do we have to go back to the tape, find every instance in which a Georgia player did something that was arguably unsportsmanlike, and post it to youtube, all before anyone can suggest what Spikes did was dirty? GMAFB--Spikes made the decision to stick his fingers inside the facemask of an opponent and do who knows what. He's not the victim of some kind of witch hunt.

Spikes is a thug and legal recourse should be in hand.

Perhaps - but it won't be instigated by UGA or any members of the football team.

Spikes' apology was enough for CMR and the Georgia Atheletic department -they accepted it and have moved on. Shouldn't you?

While rolling over in bed this morning, I gouged my dog in the eyes. I have suspended myself from the first half of the work day.

Jesse Palmer says you should take the whole day off. It's the first time I've ever seen a former college QB turned ESPN analyst say anything critical about his former team.

Sure it is - now that you think you've had the last word.

Just try not to respond - really, try very hard. Kepp trying. I know you can control yourself.

Meyer sure isn't convincing anyone that he's a classy individual these days. What is this, like the 5th or 6th national article in which his judgment has been called into question in the last day?

Urban The Ironfisted

Everyone who has seen the video of Gators linebacker Brandon "The Gouger" Spikes (2) going after the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey recognizes the truth. It was an appalling cheap shot, one of the worst things a football player can do to an opponent.

...

Gators coach Urban Meyer (4) reviewed the video and used it as a teaching moment. The lesson Meyer delivered: Nothing, not even thuggish behavior, will be allowed to substantively interfere with our pursuit of a repeat national title. That was the unmistakable message sent by Meyer's semisuspension of Spikes, which will keep him off the field for roughly 30 first-half snaps against mighty Vanderbilt on Saturday.
