Well, not to be negative nellie once more, but that old saw seems to be a standard early on. Hopefully we'll see it last, and get a recruitment that would stick. Don't believe we'll get more than this and one more year from JTT and Jack Sawyer, so need to load the pipeline up. We've got some talent already in the pipeline, but they're unproven. Maybe we'll know more in two weeks when they get some playing time. I'm more worried about DT. About six (?) will be exiting after this year, and two more, Mike Hall, and Tyleik (sp?) will probably exit one year after (if they keep playing like they're doing now). Oh well, Coach Johnson seems to have this in hand, and with his "not ready to retire, still love what I'm doing" statement, that takes away an arrow other schools are using against us. Go Bucks!

Venice defensive end

Damon Wilson
is looking more and more like a five-star. Although Naples was only credited with two pass attempts, Wilson found other ways to impact the game setting the edge forcing everything inside. When called upon, he went on offense working as a tight end/H-back for Venice.

After the game, Wilson took off for Columbus watching Ohio State take down Notre Dame 21-10 on an official visit. During the post-game interview, Wilson shared he may be committing in the next two to three weeks.

WILSON ENJOYS HIS VISIT TO COLUMBUS

One of the top priority visitors last weekend, five-star 2023 defensive end Damon Wilson, had a successful visit to OSU, his father told 247Sports this week.

“Oh man, it was first class, it was a great weekend,” Wilson’s father Damon told the recruiting network. Unbelievable atmosphere. We had a really good time. Even with all the stuff that we did, the biggest takeaway for me and my family was Coach (Larry) Johnson. You’re probably sitting with The Godfather of defensive ends and so just any time you get to be with him is just a blessing.

“We had some time to spend with him 1-on-1 and break some bread both in the meeting room and dinner, being able for little Damon (he's 6'4'', 230.....) to talk to him and break down his film and show him some things he can do better and does well. That was a really, really good experience on top of the other great things that were happening.”

Wow. Hope we get two out of the three 5*s that visited. All sounds positive, but these kids are mostly all bright enough to say the right things during their visits. After the glow of the visit wears off, and maybe another or two official visits, things start to crystalize. Guess that's why it's a benefit to have the last OV from a recruit, no? Anyway, the best recruiting tool is watching the last few recruits tear it up on the field during games (see JTT and Jack). Do so enjoy the moniker of "Godfather of DL" (maybe I've misquoted, but you get my drift). Shows Coach Johnson's street cred among recruits.
